Hi, I know there are posts on here about alarm sensitivity but I didn't quite find the answer to my query.
So.... a scum bag stole my wing mirror covers reverently and my alarm didn't go off.
I understand if you click lock once on the key, you enable maximum sensitivity on the alarm system. Click lock twice and you get less senstivity.
I pressed lock once today and I am able to hit the windows, kick tyres, mess about with wing mirrors and nothing happens. Is there any way make it more sensitive so it actually works as it should and deter those little b@stards!

I would think if you had it that sensitive it would be going off all the time when a cat jumps on the bonnet.

The standard VW alarm won't work like that. It has interior sensors in the cabin which detect movement and trigger accordingly. It also micro switches on the doors, bonnet and boot which will activate the alarm if forced.
It may be possible to set the alarm off with shock to the cars bodywork or movement, for example if it was jacked up to steal the wheels.
Years ago I had a Clifford alarm which would sense the perimeter of the car, so if someone was moving around it closely it would chirp. And if they carried on after a moment it would sound.

As said above, the alarm doesn't work as you wish. One click on the remote activates the interior sensors and perimeter switches. Two clicks disables the interior sensors for instance if you leave a dog inside.

To disable the interior sensors you push the small illuminated button on the Driver's B pillar when you exit the car.

Double clicking the keyfob disables the deadlocks and the alarm.

Yeah you're right - don't know what I was thinking!

I've set the alarm off jacking the car up while it was locked. It seemed to go off angle rather than shock as it didn't sound until the wheel was well off the ground.

Probably still the case but they used to have a tilt switch so the alarm would go off if you tried to raise the front to tow away. There was another button on the Driver's side b pillar to disable it for towing or for when the car was on a ferry.

My alarm has went off a few times when the car has been hit with hailstones and when scraping ice off it.
