Help!
My scirocco, has been soinding a little rough on gear change for a while. Took it for a servixe and was assured it was all ok.
Tonight coming home the gear stick got stuck. I couldnt change gear, without some major force. Made it home. And now ive gone out to try it again its got worse.
When i start the car, if I remove my foot from the clutch pedal the car stalls. This is out of gear.
If I force the stick into a gear, and try to go, the car wont go anywhere.
Help!

Sounds as if the clutch is not disengaging. Could be the master cylinder, the slave cylinder or the release bearing.
You might be lucky and find that gear linkage / cables have been damaged but from your description it sounds unlikely.

It would appear its stuck in reverse. As the reverse light is on.
Im going to get it towed to the dealer. I bought it 8 months ago. Whats the chances they will pay for the repairs?

If it's stuck in reverse, you won't be able to tow it unless you lift the front wheels off the ground. Unless it's under warranty, I very much doubt they will pay for the repairs, but you never know.
If it's the linkage you may be able to select neutral using the selector at the gearbox.

Heard back from the garage. Ooft. Arnold shark so ponch of salt requiered.
Needs a new gear box. New slave cylinder, and new dmf. £4000!
Had a word with the manager. Mentioned it was serviced 2 weeks ago, and after asking about the clutch and gear box, was told itthat was fine. He started to back down. Said he would see aboit asoon gearbox overhaul. But couldnt give me a price now.
Bought it 8 months ago.
Thoughts?

If they had just said clutch as well you could have called BINGO...
It sounds to me they are just covering all the bases without actually knowing what the actual issue is and what caused it.

Thread: Help. Used car needs 4k repairs
doomsponge 08:09 Today
Hi everyone. Im needing some help.
Bought a used car arnold clarke. 11 plate, 70k miles, scirocco. About 8 months ago. For 10k on finance.
It had an issue with the dpf sensor, that was fixed under warrenty.
3 weeks ago, it started sounding rough on gear change, so I tock it in, for a sservice and mentioned to them the noise and roughness. They came back and said it was fine. No problem I thought.
2 weeks later, the gear stick stopped moving. I had to get it towed to the garage. They came back to say that the gear box would need replaced, as they had checked it, and it had no oil, due to a massive leak. £4k!
Im not best pleased. They have advised they can get the gear box overhauled, at a cost of £2k. Plus, anything else they might find.
The part that really gets me, is that I took it too them, with a gearbox issue and they said it was fine. The report I got from them, after the events, says "unable to fault noise". Which in my mind is different to "its fine".
From the sounds of it, they didn't check the gearbox at all, when I initially asked them too. Leading to this.
Ive asked another garage, about it, and they reckon the same. They also dont think they can fix the gearbox.
So what do I do? Get arnold clarke to do the repair, and complain to head office? small claimsicon? Or trust my gut and take it somewhere else? Bare in mind it cant move.
