Am I doing something wrong but when I switched the ignition off my iPod remains on and I have to disconnect it from the cable. Is this supposed to be the case or is there something I'm not getting right

The system remains active for the minutes after you turn the ignition off. Once you remove the key from the ignition the system will turn off.

With you now, you mean the actual player remains on when the system turns off.?

yes in my last car which was a Honda when you switched off the iPod also switched off. Any ideas is this normal in the car or is there anything else I could try

Mine is the same {touch} so unless we are both doing something wrong, that must be the way it is.

The ipod should switch itself off after a couple of minutes. Same as if you plug it into your pc, then switch your pc off, as the link is lost when the power is removed, the ipod switches itself on as part of normal operation.

Checked this morning for you when getting into the office, mine is the exact same, but the track stops playing and carrys on where I left it when I jump back in. I'll check it later but I suspect it turns itself off/standby after a few mins anyway.

I have the new iPod nano with the latest firmware so I don't think its iPod related must be the cable/VW stuff.

One bug I have noticed though, when I flick through the tracks everything is fine, when I finish a track right to the end and then it jumps on to the next the track; the names sometime don't change, I'll investigate this further as I often have Mix option selected and I'm wondering if that doesn't talk very well with the iPod during playback.

i had problems with the nano 3rd gen. sometimes after turning on ignition, or even switching from radio to ipod, it would say something like MDI Device error, something along those lines, with my ipod touch, not had a single problem, must be the nano, maybe could do with a firmware upgrade

nano g4 is working well, note the switching off issue applies to me as well, when you scroll back through the menus always always seems to go to songs list rather than last menu ie artist or albums, i had the mix issue and it was in the setup on the head unit under media also tweaked the volume in to level 2, have also used an old shuffle though usb, really impressed with the nano g4 as a piece of kit

if you leave it playing a song for a while, or turn the ignition off, it will always go back to the all songs list. does anyone know how to get it to go back to the main list ie artists albums etc?

ipod cable part numbers

as per the norm no ipod cable at delivery, the part number on the cable is different to those shown on the brochure, the number on mine is 000 051 444C, dealer said this was the one recommended for cars after build week 22, they pointed out the one number in price list is £35 list as apposed to £25 in brochure (price increase since 1 October), the list on the one they gave me is £20 so better for them, no issues on functionality
