I'm dreading having to take the roc in for this "update" have had many letters saying it needs to as my engine is affected ...... surely performance will be affected in some way ? ..... the reduction in emissions must take it from somewhere ? Has anyone had it carried out yet and noticed a difference ?

When my car was in, I just signed a disclaimer and told them not to do the update.

If you do get it done though, you do get a free gift of a pen, keyring and flask mug. I bet the US customers are really jealous as they only got a few thousand dollars...

I'm the same as Cuprabob, told them I didn't want it done. All I had to do was sign a piece of paper.

They can't make you bring it in but just be careful. I only booked my Scirocco in for a service and it was automatically also booked in for the update. If I hadn't have read the work order sheet carefully they would have done it without me ever asking for it.

What happens when it comes to future MOT tests ? ..... that's ideal then - nothing should be affected !

I don't think they measure NOx at the MOT, maybe in the future they will.

As said, no impact on MOT emissions test.

Had anyone had it done yet? What are your thoughts? My car is in for a service on 28th and from what I've read, it's not been a great experience afterwards. I'll probably be asking for a disclaimer. I would be more satisfied if they provided some form or warranty, it says a lot that they don't trust their remap enough to give it a warranty...

I've read some shocking stories about 140 Passats and Tiguans being done, vibrations at 1500, poor fuel consumption etc etc. Our 177 Passat is in for a service on Tuesday and won't be done. The problem is that once done it apparently cannot be reversed so we'll be leaving as is. Have a look here.

140 2.0 TDI Rocco here. I did VW update. No difference on power output that I can notice. The only thing I now notice is the amount of DPF regens. It used to do 2 per month. Now it does 1 or 2 per week, it depends. More consumption average when doing regen of course. Because of that it wastes more diesel.

heard mixed reports, but extra regens seems silly, I do a lot of motorway miles 300 a week at least. so I certainly don't need any extra regen activity, are they still giving out keyrings and crap for this?

I think they are running the engines richer what reduces the NOx output but creates more soot.
What explanes the extra regenerations and fuel use.

Makes sense, yeah Rich engine run, suggests we could tune it back down but then we would just NOX it back up lol! Who needs a Rich running engine, are we back to being able to flood them? haven't smelt a rich runner in fecking ages.

I got my letter through from VW last week and was going to book my car in at my local dealership, however I've since been advised of the power issue it's created on Tiguans and it's got my thinking if I should go through with the update?

I know it's not mandatory and to be honest, I've had no problems at all during the time I've had the car (2 years), so I'm thinking is it really worth taking the risk? I'd be absolutely gutted if I had the update done and started to encounter problems. Obviously I'd be taking it back to VW, however they probs tell me nothing is wrong or to jog on!

As for the compo thing, don't even get me started on that. My old man has a Audi Q3 and when they did the software update on that, they gave him a proper authorised Audi car cleaning kit worth about £60.00, which I thought was decent. Offering a pen, keyring or some other form of absolute tat is nothing short of an insult! I'd probably tell them to stick it!!

I'm curious to know the following if possible please?

- if anyone has had the update done and encountered any problems?
- As car tax is calculated on emissions output, would this affect what I pay each year?
- By not having the update done, could this cause problems if I try to sell or part-ex it?

My gut instinct is telling me to sack the update off, however just trying to gather some info before I defo make that decision.

My car had it done before I got it there 3 weeks ago but tbh I don't see any problems with it
It still goes fast and there's no extra fuel I'm using
Soo it's all okay atm! Fingers crossed!

VED is based on CO2 emissions and the emissions in question with the update is Nox emissions. No effect on VED paid or the MOT test.

Whether the update has been done will have no impact on sale or trade-in. If it did, you could just get it done just before you sell.

My reply would be this: how is your car running now? Is it going well? If so why mess with it. Do you really need a free pen and mug that badly?

I think maybe is the important word there!!!

Plenty of people on here saying the mod makes no difference, so not much incentive for VW to pay compensaton.

The software fiddle was to pass a specific emission test in US. No mention of a similar fiddle to pass UK tests so presumably with or without the US fiddle it passed UK tests. So what's the claim? That VW sold you a car which wouldn't pass a US test it doesn't need to pass? Typical ambulance chasing lawyer chancers and money grabbing consumers brought up in a compensation culture. Get real.
