I think i have a problem with the brakes on my car. When im stationary and in 'D', if i let the brake off very slowly to creep forward gently, along with the usual noise i would expect (the sound of the brakes trying to hold the car back while i havent fully let it off) i get a huge squeak that keeps going until i let the brake off completely. also, when i press the brake firmly when going slowly, i also get the squeak while the car is stopping. it seems to happen more when it is wet, or at least its more noticeable.

Does anyone else have this? i guess it would be more noticeable if you have dsg due to being able to creep forward slowly while letting the brake off.
I mentioned it when the car was in with the garage before but they didnt seem to fix it

thats normal, mine does it too. More noticable when its wet and the discs have surface rust on them from sitting stationary. Normal braking wipes the disc clean and the squeaking stops. Either that or you have a serious build up of brake dust/debris/something stuck in the pads.

normal braking doesnt seem to do anything, went on the motorway for 20 miles or so, then came off to go home and still doing it when i pulled up, and it wasnt raining or very wet while i was driving

How many miles have you done and what's your driving style? Hard braker? Like I said could be a stone or something caught but that would be more likely to grind rather than squeal. The pads might have wear indicators that squeal when they get low but you said the garage checked and found nothing.

been 8000 miles, pretty agressive style overall i suppose, some heavy braking, they arent worn down so i guess ill get it checked again

That is one of the joys of modern breakpads without asbestos.
The squeaking will come and go, thats probably why Your garage did not do anything about it.

On my motorbike, I switch the breakpads around left<>right, and the squeaking stops for a time.

That said, some breakpad marques apparently squeak more than others.

Mine does exactly this too, and has been doing it on and off since about 300 miles on the clock (from new - now around 2900 miles on the clock) so most definitely not down to brake wear.
Definitely more evident when you use the car after being left overnight or when it's been raining.
Had a BMW automatic not too far back which did that as well. I just assumed it was normal for automatics.

Could it be VW's "dry wipe" brake technology is to blame? Not sure if the Scirocco has it, but last time I went to the dealers (for wipers!) there was a big poster saying how wonderful VW's "dry wipe" system is. It said how dry brakes work better, so the brakes are applied very gently, automatically at intervals to keep the brakes dry. It didn't say whether all VWs have it now, or just certain ranges. The implication of the poster was that it is a pretty universal feature across the VW range.

Had mine to the dealer 2 times with this. There is now apparently a fix for this according to the VW central technical department. My front brakes will be replaced. Wonder if the quality of the new brakes will be of better or worse quality? But as long as the squeaking stops, I'll be glad.
