knocking noise at 25mph

Hi
I am getting a knocking noise a 25mph. The noise goes away as I speed up and appears again when I get to 25. I suspect traction control. It's gets louder as I break and pass through the 25mph zone. I have had tracking reset recently but has not stopped the noise. When cruising at 30 to 40 I can feel a slight judder as if the traction control is activating and deactivating. I had previously swapped the tyres from rear to front but did not notice the noise until a week or two later. Any ideas from the experts out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike

If it was caused by the traction control the ESP light would come on as it was activating. Does the light come on? If you switch ESP off do you still get the same symptom?
Are you sure it's not a misfire as you describe it as a judder?
The noise you describe, is it a single knock or several in relation to the speed?

Hi. ESP turned off makes no difference but what I have noticed recently is if spin both wheels up the ESP light does not come on.
I've checked for miss fire and I don't think that is the case.
the knock is definatly a rotational knocking noise that starts at 25mph and continues to about 30 then eases off.
the front left tyre is brand new due to a puncture and the front right is off the rear which I will put back over the weekend and see if it's a mishaped tyre that's causing something to happen.

Although talking about mishaped tyres and traction control problems. How much grief could a buckled wheel cause never had one before so not quite sure what to expect. Do you think it would cause enough problems to upset the sensitivity of the traction control or its electronics that monitor the drive. I would imagine at certain speeds the bad wheel would become quite noticeable.

It really depends on how buckled the wheel was or how of shape the tyre is.
Did the issue appear at the same time as you swapped the tyre from the rear?. Personally I would just buy a new matching front tyre

Thanks cuprabob.
I will swap the tyres from front to back first. Don't quite remember if it all started exactly when I originally swapped them maybe one tyre at 8mm and one at 4mm made things worse when I had the left one replaced. If there is an improvement when I swap them I may go the whole hog and put on a new tyre.
Cheers.

Hi Cuprabob.
just out of interest as you mention the possibility of a miss fire being one of my problems would you know what the ideal spark plug gap should be for a 2.0 tsi with bluefin remap. At present I am using iridium ngk plugs with default gap of 0.75. Thanks. Mike

Problems solved.
Unbelievable that all the noise was from a tyre. Swapped the front to rear and noise has gone. Don't even get any noise from rear.
Changed spark plug gap to 1mm and judder has gone when running cold and between to 30 and 40 mph zone.
So if your running a 2.0 tsi with bluefin looks like the ideal plug gap is 1mm.
So happy
