Ordered New Scirocco R Line - Questions about Interior

Post by Bane17 »

Hi all,

I have a new 66 plate Scirocco R Line on order that should be delivered last August/early September. I've loved Sciroccos for ages now so I'm really excited about finally having one of my own. I have a few questions however:

1) What Sat Nav comes with the latest model? Is it RNS510?
2) Does this model allow you to use a Memory Card for music/films and does the car come with one?
3) What exactly is under the central arm rest? Is it simpy storage or somewhere to charge your phone also? Any pics?
4) Is there a good place to store your phone in the vehicle that is visible or will I need to buy a mount?
5) I have an Android device, will I need a in car charger 12v socket charger to charge the phone or does the car already provide something along those lines? If so, where is it situated?

Sorry if these are silly questions but I've not had much chance to look inside a Scirocco, especially the latest model R Line so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Good choice!
Mine's a 2015 but I don't think too much has changed.
To answer your questions in order:
1) Yes I think so - that's what mine is.
2) SD card slot yes & plays music from SD card but whether the unit can play video I don't think so.
3) Very little! Just about has room to put an ipod in! And a very small pen.
4) You'll need a mount unless you use the 'cupholder' space which has a detachable separator/bottle opener. Without that fitted, you might have room for a phone.
5) There is a 12v socket at the front of the centre console. You can put a USB adaptor in there.
Hope this helps.

I don't think the latest Scirocco comes with the RNS510. I'm sure the now come with the same media system as currently fitted to the Golf 7, which by many accounts is better. I believe it's called Discover and the Discover Pro is available as an option.

Information is all available on VW website

For future reference your car will be a Model Year 2017 as VW MY changeover at the factory is week 23.

I think Cuprabob is right - I remember reading the latest brochure the week before we got the car & seeing it had the Discover system then being disappointed that ours didn't have it. Discover is much better - (my Passat has it) - much better screen etc.

My sept 2015 R came with discover media as standard. It's better than the RNS510 I had in my previous car. No idea if the R line is the same but if it is:

Discover media has two SD slots. One SD card comes with the car with the nav on. The other SD card slot is empty, I presume you can put music on it, don't think it plays films. Discover pro can do films but it's not even an option on the scirocco. Have been tempted to look at aftermarket swaps to discover pro but not enough to do it.

Under the arm rest is a usb slot. Mine's got an ipod shuffle connected to it via the normal apple lead. It plays thro the discover media with steering wheel or touch screen control, displays artwork on the screen which is cool. There may be a 3.5mm socket too for aux in but I don't use it so can't really remember.
