Airbag light on and MFSW wont work

So I bought my car last week and the airbag light was on, I have no horn and non of the buttons on the steering wheel working. The guy I bought it off said it was the clock spring that had broken, but he gave me a new one to fit, telling me that this would fix the issue. So tonight I fit the new clock spring and still my horn doesn't work and neither do any of the buttons. My scirocco is a 2010 GT TDI. I presume its the original wheel, so just wondering if anyone could help on this situation as its driving my insane!

Below shows a picture of my wheel just incase this isn't the original wheel and the previous owner has bollocksed something up. If anyone could guide me in the right direction to another clock spring as I don't know if there all the same, or will need re-coding.

Thanks

When I had an airbag light fault it was a duff slip ring at about three years old. Can't remember whether the buttons stopped working at the same time though, but it would make sense to my non car brain.

Haha yeah that's what I thought too, after ringing VW today, I got the part number I need and the guy has given me a slip ring that wasn't compatable with my car that bas*ard. So looks like I'll have to find a one with the same
Code second hand, £210 from VW! Did you need to code the new one you fitted?

I think if he sold you a car that the horn doesn't work, then it would fail an MOT which means it's not safe to be on the road. Maybe have a word with the seller. Was it private or from a garage ?

You'll definitely need check the coding on the new one, and most likely have to set it to match the coding on the original one as you will have no idea what options the new controller has been configured for.

Can't help I'm afraid, I had it all done by the dealer I bought the car from. Total bill was £350 or something like that, of which I paid under a hundred - I was just out of warranty but claimed Sales of Goods act and we compromised so that I wouldn't have to take them to court!

Unfortunately it was private and he told me about the issue, but he did say that the clock Spring he provided was the right one and would fix the issue, my own fault I guess for believing him. Managed to find a matching part number So ill fit that and get it coded.

I'm always skeptical when I see an advert for a car, which the seller says it's an easy cheap fix. If it's that easy or cheap why haven't you just got it fixed before selling your car? Much easier to sell a car without any "simple" faults, I would have thought. :-)

Glad you got it sorted...

Hi so I'm afraid I am in the same situation. I am wondering which year your rocco was, and which partnumber it had ? It usually starts with 5K0 953 569 and 2 digits. These digits decide whether it is or isn't suitable for your car. But there are so many according to the website of Rosstech:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... e_Versions" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I don't know which one exactly fits to my car.

I originally have the 5K0 953 569 C which didn't support the mfsw

Any help from anyone would be appreciated alot!
