Daytime Running Lights?

Okay, so this is kind of a stupid question, I have the base model scirocco with the knob below, which one of these modes should I be in for day and which one for night? '0' turns on all the lights, but turns off the interior lights. The middle mode keeps interior lights on but turns the headlights off and only keeps the sidelights on. The one to the right turns on all the lights and the interior lights. So which one of the 3 modes should I be in during the day?

This is the knob.

0 - during the day
Middle - sidelights on (dusk)
Right - headlights on (night)

The confusion comes from the fact that the Scirocco uses the headlights in lieu of DRLs and as such the headlights cannot be switched off. Normally "0" means all lights are off.

That's exactly what I've been doing, thanks! :D

Its also possible to leave if in the right position, lights will turn on/off with ignition.
But your headlights are always on then.

But doesn't that leave the parking lights on?

If im correct then the parking lights will go off, only stay on in center position.
At lot's of VW's this is coded this way as a sort of 'auto' lights.

If it doesn't work you need vcds to enable this option.
In module 09 - central electrics is an option under coding byte 15 and then bit 5 has to be checked.
It's called Parking lights off with terminal S off and lightswitch at low beam.

Cheers for that.

Not an issue for me as I have Xenons and lights work as they should:-)

Me too;) I discovered it at a car at work that has this function. And saw this bit when using vcds.
Also there is a function that you can operate the windows after turning the ignition off which i find handy.

Yes, my windows and Sunroof operate for around 5mins after I switch off the ignition. As you say, very handy.

As the headlights are always on as DRLs, does moving the dial to the furthest right ("during night") actually do anything? Brightens up the dashboard lights? My 2010 GT might be a bit different as I think it is AUTO, so moving to the right just forces the dash to light up for "night" rather than auto guessing? I tend to leave mine on 0 all the time.

DRLs are an EU directive I think, so now 51% of the population voted out of the EU, I am guessing they can now take baseball bats to those DRLs :) :)

I left the dial in "ON" positon (far right) once, sometimes in March, before I went away for 10 days. Came home to a flat battery.

I normally leave it on AUTO but I remember it was foggy the night before I left and I had the fog lights on. I pushed the dial to turn off the fog lights when I parked up but forgot to turn the dial to AUTO or "0", it didn't beep or anything when I pulled the key out so I assumed all lights were off. Anyways it could be the cold weather or it could be the old battery, but I will not leave it in "ON" again to test the theory. Just thought I would share my experience.
