Hi all is it correct that all the 2.0 tsi gt's are chain driven and the others are belt driven?or is only select models? Thanks

All the petrol models apart from the R are chain driven. The R and the diesels are belt driven.
This information is for cars prior to the 2014 facelift.

The confusion comes from the fact the power outputs of the MK5 GTI and the early Scirocco 2.0 TSI are the same at 197bhp so people assume incorrectly they share the same engine. Golf uses EA113 whereas the Scirocco uses EA888 apart from the R which does use the EA113.

Thanks bob that's great mate. So these engines don't really worry about doing too many miles then as long as they're looked after

No set interval for the chain as it's supposed to last the life of the engine.

Just a word of warning, the early ones have a faulty tensioner which lets the chain slacken when not driven !!
Caught mine early enough but still costing me £1400 to get it sorted and its only done 47000 miles with full vw service history. VW aren't intrested even though its a known fault and has been redesighed since.
