It's a car that pays to do your research on, like everything; you get out what you out in!

It'll depend on budget, personal preference and a dash of luck. Trust your gut if buying from the second hand market! The 2.0 TSI is a great engine, plenty of power and facility to tune to your desires. Remember, most things can be changed if you're not 100% keen (and there's the guides to do so here funny enough!) so invest in a Roc that's been looked after and it'll stand you in good stead, whatever you decide on!

Also buy a white one, they're easily the best colour. Just be prepared to wash it every three minutes ;)

Any questions or adverts you'd like a second opinion on, just bring them up here; there's plenty of knowledge around that I'm sure people were willing to share! Best of luck!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... /usedcars/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2.0 TSI GT up for sale; few minor mods and not bad mileage in white. £8.4k

Something along these lines maybe?

Silver GT petrol for around the same price; leather innards (can vouch for these having gott'em myself)

Yeah that silver one looks perfect with the leather . Would you not be put off buying private compared to trade ?

There are definitely a few advantages to buying from a dealership Vs private; warranty and backup if there's anything that goes wrong. I bought mine from a VW Inchcape dealership for just such a reason.

On the flip side, I bought my 25th Anni GTI privately and it was perfect from day 1. If you've got someone on hand to give it a really good look over & you're happy with the history and state of the car then there's no reason that private sale is a bad idea, you'll also get it 5-10% cheaper than dealership.

You can always have a look and say no thanks if you're not sure, trust your gut as you'll get a pretty quick idea from the seller of its been looked after over time.

Yeah, good shout when you're spending that kind of money. What you might want to do is push them to service the car before handover as part of the deal; see if you can get the buy-in for jobs such as the oil change/cam belt etc. I got the DSG oil changed as part of the sale agreement when i bought mine, and negotiated the Cambelt change at a lower price too.

That's a great idea I didn't think of getting them to do that sort of thing too
