Hi everyone,
The mrs's scirocco went in for its 40k service today.
Only thing wrong with it was the rear drivers side shock is leaking.
What's the factory spec shock for these is it Sachs.
Can anyone help us out?
Cheers
Lee

It depends whether the car has DCC or not. If it does, I believe direct replacements are only available from dealer or TPS and as you would expect, not the cheapest.

Dcc?
Dynamic Chassis Control - button in front of gearstick which adjusts the suspension setting and steering weight between Comfort, Normal and Sport. There is an electronically controlled valve in each shock absorber to adjust the firmness. Similar function to and a cheaper version of Audi Magnetic Ride

I don't know the exact price but I would think the shock would be more than £100 alone. Let me know what TPS come back with as it's good information.
It's easy enough to change. Only extra complication is the electrical connector, which is straightforward unless it's corroded.

I recently had a rear shock replaced, they are £184.89+vat at TPS and the same £220.66 from the dealers. And yes DCC one is a dealer only part. Sorry, lol.

If the car has a FVWSH and you get on OK with the dealer you could try and get some goodwill discount as even although the roads are bad a shock should last longer than 40K miles.

Vw are hard work they will say it's wear and tear.
Been through it in the past with old gti 06
Front arches starting rusting as did many others took ages to get in.
Vw's fault by lining in the inner arches lined with foam that held water

Those were the prices from a few weeks ago anyway, maybe you'll have more luck when you phone. At least you didn't need 1 front Spring and 1 rear Spring at the same time as the damper, VW wanted £720 to fix all that! I went to a friends garage and had all 4 springs, front top mounts, drop links and the damper replaced for less. My car is around 65k miles. Instead of repairing the roads around me, the council are putting in cycle lanes.

I'm aware of it as I used to have a 2006 MK5 R32. I'm lucky in that I've got a relatively good relationship with my dealer who tends to fight my corner but I'm aware they can be hard work.

Is it blindingly obvious when a shock needs changing? I've had it mentioned on my last couple of services (and on my wife's golf) at VW dealership but they have never failed MOT because of it. They weren't insisting it needed doing but didn't really give much explanation as to when it really would need doing, just advising it (they seemed to say just weeping rather than leaking though). I suppose when my car yo-yos for minutes after a speed bump it really does need doing?!

I have a full set of sale that I took of my 2010 scirocco. I'll do a deal for a fellow member.
