Only had my car a couple of weeks, and i have noticed a very slight stutter at around the idle - 2000 rpm range when cold

Having had a search i have found a few threads about this, but no rock solid solutions

I suspect possible causes are either carbon build up, which seems common on the 2.0 TSI engines, or coil packs, but i suspect a coilpack issue would happen across the rev range

Are there any decent solutions to carbon build up that don't cost a fortune

Having read another thread today where someone mentioned TerraClean, and a quick check on their website and an email to my local TerraClean garage, it can be done for £108

But the big question is......... is it worth it, or am i best spending my money elsewhere, or just living with it

Terraclean is useless for direct injection engines - their fuel based cleaning doesn't do anything for carbon buildup on the intake valves and intake tract.

Other services which say they clean with hydrogen, are also of next to no use - it only removes a tiny amount of the carbon build up.
The only way to get it cleaned is to take the intake manifold off and either walnut shell blast (preferable) or attack it with chemicals and wire brushes.

Sorted this myself a month ago and the car drives like new.

Google search 2.0 tsi carbon build up and you'll find plenty of guides and help.

Personally it took me 10 solid hours to do right!

Carbon build up on the inlet valve is due to the emissions system removing oil fumes from the sump and recycling through the engine via the air induction system. If the engine is not using oil then this should not build up significantly. As said above using fuel additives bypasses the inlet valves - direct injection - so is useless for inlet valve carbon build up. Only way is to remove the intake manifold and use one of the physical methods described above.
