Body Control Module FAILED TWICE!

Hi all,

Got a bit of a problem.

Have had the car for a few months. Really hated the yellow headlights, these are not xenon's, so wanted to put a hid kit in. I used a set from my old car. A few days later the driver side low beam stopped working. Got it checked turned out to be the ecu. Had this replaced (with a used one) and programed. Purchased another new hid kit which claimed it has ecu protection etc etc. But a day later my passenger side stops working, got it checked and turns out the ECU has failed again!

Can someone help me why its doing this! I've never heard of a problem like this anywhere!!

Any help, comments, are appreciated!

Odd I have used HID's in my projectors for 2-3 months now and have no issues at all are you sure everything is wired up correctly?

I would also be wary of cheap ballasts.

Have you checked the option bi-xenon headlights in vagcom also.

Yes everything is wired up correct. Done it many many times in the past. Had a kit on my old car running for almost a year with no issues. Have to admit these were the cheap ebay £20-25 ones so not shocked it had messed up my ecu. But now i got a brand new set for £60 which are meant to protect the ecu. Have spoken to the seller and they've told me this has never happened to anyone else. Must be something else triggering the ecu failure whilst the hids are connected.

My headlights arnt the xenons mate, just the standard reflector type.

I've known audi a3's blowing wiper motors when HID'S fitted. its because they share the same earth and the current draw blows the motor.
i would give the lights there own earth on the chassis and not a shared one.

Okay so. I managed to fix my own problem!

Disconnected the battery and reconnected and boom the lights working again (halogens that is)! Could be that it never was an ECU problem since i never tried this on my original ecu!

Not going to bother with hids anymore. Ordered a set of osrams for now.

The control module monitors the current being drawn by the lights and if it's too low or too high it shuts the circuit down until the module is reset by clearing the fault.
