2.0 TSI 200 HP DSG Engine Whine - Normal?

Hello fellow Scirocco enthusiasts ,

I'm in need of your help! Could you please check your vehicles to see if you hear the same thing?

The problem:
Engine Whine

The evidence:

Car Details:
UK - 59 Plate
2.0 TSI (200PS/147kW)- DSG

Conditions:
2000RPM+
Hot or Cold
All driving conditions - even if I have been driving for hours - same whine (and magnitude)
Any gear (including neutral)
Above 4500RPM Engine starts to drown it out

Things tried - Removed serpentine belt - whine persists ruling out auxiliary components

VW Dealership says they had another of the same car come in for MOT that had the same sound - suggested it may be NORMAL??

Question - to those with the same engine/vehicle configuration:

IS IT NORMAL??

Do you mean you hear the whine, and it's normal? or you don't hear the whine at all?

Yep that's the same noise mine makes. VW checked it out and it took 2 mechanics and the master tech 3 days to come to the conclusion that it was normal after listening to other scirocco's at the garage. Not forgetting to charge me an hours labour plus vat for the privilege...

I'm glad u have the same noise as mine, that whine sound I presumed was my turbo noise and been thinking something's wrong with it!

I'm pretty sure it's getting louder and happening over a larger range <1500 and >4500.

I doubt it's "normal" as in, by design.

Wish we could set up a poll or something to find out how "normal" at least by occurance, it really is.

Only had my 2.0 TSi just over a week now, but sounds normal to me, though i can't hear a definitive whine as such, but still sounds just like mine

I tried to listen for it on mine but I couldnt hear anything like that, maybe very very soft but.

Saw a 59 plate 2.0 tsi parked near me as I was leaving tesco today. Parked next to it and waited for the owner. Nice guy, let me compare the engine sound. Heard the exact same whine. So this should close the issue. Guess the engines on the 2.0 tsi are just a bit whiney
