Scirroco isn't coming..

Hi guys,
Just a quickie, see if anyone else is currently in the same boat. I know its pprobably a post for the delivery section but can anyone help.
I ordered my Scirroco via a Broker at the very beginning of March. The estimated build was 8 weeks then 3 weeks to ship.
However 've been informed that the Scirroco (althoug built and ready) will not begetting shipped over until there is a full load to ferry over. In other words, the car has been built and ready since early May but VW aren't selling as many cars as before this downturn int he car market. They used to ship a ferry over every week but now they won't move my VW Scirroco until there's enough cars to fill a ferry. So it just sits at the docks indefinitiely!!
Can this be right or do you think its a stalling tactic by the VW dealer?

I know there is a down turn in new car sales but even if you take it that 50% less cars are being sold this would lead to fortnightly salings rather than weekly ones so a delay of a week would be expected at most.

The production of cars would bave been slowed to account for the drop in orders so it really should not be sitting for that long, but press him for the actual build date and go to VW UK directly to see if there has been additional lead times on the delivery of new cars due to transpotation issues.

Also this has not just happened since you placed your order, so over the last year you would expect revised contracts with the shipping company would have been put in place to take into account the reduced numbers.

Are you sure it is not just the broker pulling your chain and passing the buck for their mistakes.

Mine was apparently built in Wk 19, so 6 weeks ago

Last I heard it was in Germany for quality checks, apparently this is normal, but still no idea when it will be delivered, and mine doesn't need a ferry !

I don't know what they are ******* about at, but they don't seem particularly hurried to deliver even when the cars are built

Very frustrating :grumpy:

I believe it is true, since the same happened to me,the car was in transport meaning it is sitting at the dock since the last days of may, and waited there until the next arrival of VW's
to the dock then the ship took off a week late than the dealer was told it would..but no problems now, got to the dealer on Sunday, now waiting to be cleaned off from the wax and the plates
put on..so hopefully in 2-3 days since the dealers are full of new cars waiting to be prepared for pick up

Mertango, how long did your Scirroco sit at port for in total?

I got hacked off being messed around by the Broker so got the dealer's details direct, a Steve Marston. He's the one who told me it was sat at the port. Its a killer knowing it built and ready but I'm sat here sharing our lasses car as I've sold my 350Z. And still no concrete date!

As much as I can remember and if the dealer was being honest/or if VW were honest to the dealer, then around 10 days, at least thats how I knew it, and was very upsetting too, but I guess you got to cut them
some slack since it does make sense to fill up the ship, especially these days..

I had to wait 4 weeks after build. My old man went to the factory to pick his VW up ( not a 'Rocco) and said it was well worth the experience... which I had listened to him and flown to Germany to get mine!

I must have been very lucky then - had build week 22 and it made it to the dealers about a week ago, even the dealer was surprised it arrived so soon.

Off to collect tomorrow :D

Not something the dealers offer... but if you ask! The dealer might not know about it either as not many people do it. There is a a big customer collection centre at the factory and many Germans collect their cars direct.

With regard to picking up cars from the Wolfsburg Autostadt, would that not be problematic with registering your vehicle with the DVLA and getting number plates sorted or do they (VW UK) arrange this and it is merely a case of turning up, signing on the dotted line like you would do in the UK only it happens to be in the Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Might save me a trip back to the UK next April if this is the case.

Don't think it was simple... Dealer sorted out the registration paperwork from chassis no, insurance was off the registration number and I think he took the tax disk with him, Pre Delivery Inspecton was done at the factory. Never asked what was done about paying for it, I think the dealer took payment. I expect it was a right pain for the dealer, but possible.

I got given the registration number of my Scirroco today and told it should be arriving on 18th June in the UK and should be ready for delivery next week. I guess it may be a possibility it may be coming this time if they've given me a reg number...do you think its coming??

Built last week, ready to collect early next week. That's much quicker than I was expecting for delivery.

June 25th and still no car! Broker was supposed to be sending paperwork last Thursday but now says he did but it must have gone missing and will have to resend. Yeah Right! Don't anybody get a car via K&G Vehicle Solutions, Scotland! Now even if the paperwork gets to me tomorrow I can't see the car arriving till the end of June.
Frustrating, knowing that the car was built and ready fir me within 12weeks. Its now sat in Manchester while I sit with no car. The car is lovely but VW leave a lot  to be desired when it comes to customer services!

I bet if UK customers were able to travel to Germany to pick up in person, you'd still be clobbered for the £400odd dealer delivery charge!

The longest part of the wait is knowing that it's built but it's not at the dealers yet.

Worse for me - my car was sat in the dealers for 9 days before I got my mitts on it. The salesperson was going on holiday when it was due in and wouldn't let anyone else hand it over, I had to wait until she got back!

Sod that - why should you be inconvenienced because she was off on holidays? She'd have got the commission already from the sale - what does it matter who hands it over as long as it's done right.
