Decided that it was a nice clear day and I'd take the Roc out for a wee clean!

went to my local sainsburys and decided to use the Jet Wash (thinking it'd be the safest way to clean it)

Used the brush, which sadly seems to have been used as pebble storage beforehand.

Car is now covered in a myriad of small scratches and marks, including the windscreen!

I'm absolutely livid!

Gutted for you!!! I learnt that lesson 2 cars ago!!! I dont even take it to a car wash anymore, I just do it at home whenever I have the time

My old car got scratched up a treat by that thing - never used it again. The jet wash itself is fine, just that brush! - i wouldn't even use it on alloys.

As above i wash my car at home nowadays, however in the winter i do have a couple of £1.99 'Arc' car washes...making sure the guy doesn't do the alloy pre-clean, or pre-ruin with chemicals as i call it.

Sadly I live in a flat so home cleaning is a no!

I'll just start taking my own mitt and use the jet wash to fill a bucket of soap

I'm awaiting a quote for a full paint correction detail and a protective coating!

I wouldn't even look at those brushs let alone use one.

I guess I've just been lucky up until now. I've always treated my cars well and all have had full paint corrections and coatings to look after them. Never had an issue with using a jet wash in between.

This time I lost the gamble and my paintwork paid the price!

Particularly disappointed as the car was immaculate when I collected it.

I have a chap I use for this kinda stuff and I have no doubt that he can restore the car back to better than new condition, but it won't be cheap!

From now on I'll take my own mitt and just use the spray to get the dirt off!

I only use Body Shield Pro, a waterless polish. with a micro fibre cloth which puts a layer of carnuaba. When it gets dirty a bucket of water and a microfibre cloth soon shifts it all (I only use microfibre cloths which encapsulates the dirt without scratching - trust me it works!) I am very fussy about the finish and will not go anywhere near a car wash. I can Body Shield Pro the Scirocco in 20 Minutes! - That's wash and wax!

I cant remember what I did when I lived in a flat... I just waited till we went to my partner's parent's house and used their hose lol

When I use the brush I always use the jet washer on it first. It works for the last xxyears so far

Based on this the jet wash isn't to bad.

Why use a brush on paintwork at all? I'd rather my car go dirty than use equipment that would damage the paintwork...

My cars never go near a commercial wash. Even the so called 'hand wash' guys blast the dirt into the paintwork with their jet washes when they start the cleaning process.

like I say, ive never had a scare with them before. So nothing to ever put me off!

But suffice to say I've learned an expensive mistake!

none of the scratches can be felt with a nail, they'll all machine out fairly easily i'd think. Gives me an excuse to get the car corrected and coated

With a good detail, hopefully you should get it back to normal, if not better!

Now it's our job to turn you into the crazed car cleaning nutters like us - get used to lambswool mitts, two bucket wash methods and the majority of your monthly wage spent on new microfiber cloths !

as you may have seen above, I live in a flat in the city centre of Edinburgh. Car cleaning is pretty much impossible .

Best I can do for now is get it cleaned up properly, get it looking like new, and then just use the jet wash spray to keep the car as clean as possible until I can take it to my regular detailer for a refresh. He does small maintenance packages where he just cleans the car inside and out with wool mitt etc and just makes sure the coatings etc are still up to scratch.

Car booked in for a correction detail next week!

If it's not practical for you to wash your car, I would take it to a detailers who offer a "service" wash. Might be a bit more pricey than the hand car wash places you get everywhere, but at least they won't do anything that might damage the paint.
