FAO People With 'Merlin cloth'

Post by mark_mcd »

Hi,

Me and my dad were in at VW looking at the Scriocco today - pretty impressed with everything apart from the standard cloth interior in the demonstrator. It seemed slightly low rent but am unsure as to whether it is poor enough for £1500 of leather! Half leather would have been ideal like in his current Skoda vRS.

Can people living with a Scriocco with the Merlin cloth say how it is living up to day to day use?

Is the leather worth the extra?

Thanks in advance.

Its superb, i much prefer the cloth to the factory leather.

It looks modern with the mesh and mine isn't wearing at all, although i've only done 4k.

The merlin is very hard wearing, i has 'interlagos cloth' on my mk5 GTI and this is far better, bolsters are fine too, no creases etc.

Leather at £1500 is way too much, I think Merlin looks great, with the mesh net. If you want to be sure to keep it pristine, buy 2 £6 cans of upholstery Scotchgard spray and use a can on a seats and a can on the carpets (available in John Lewis dept stores).

You'll get a sweaty arse in the summer on the leather, and VW leather isn't exactly the most hardwearing (but were you planning on keeping the car 10 years?).

You'll not get a sweaty arse if you keep the climate nice and cool ;)

Be unique and get a retrim. I got leather, looks a lot better than cloth to me but is pricey and there isn't much choice in terms of colours. Silver or cream leather would be awesome. 8)
