Exhaust..

Hey guys,

Just a random topic but about 6 months ago I took at 11 plate DSG 170GT for a test drive and it had a very loud throaty exhaust note (which surprised me a lot) it sounded like a proper sports car inside.

Since then I have bought a 2009 170GT manual but this car just sounds like a normal diesel?

Do they have different exhausts on the newer cars? We also have a 2012 GTD which sounds nicer than my car.

My 2012 gt 170 tdi has a interior artificial sound noise.
It's called a soundaktor and is designed to give the interior cabin a slightly sporty feel. I know mk6 golf gtds and gti have it . I don't know when it was introduced so that might be why. The 2009 model might not have it .

Unless it is the exhaust that's making the noise which if it is then more than likely it was aftermarket. As my exhaust just sounds like a normal diesel engine.

Ahhhh this must be the reason then. Is there any way I can get it coded to my car? I really really liked it! [emoji20] made me smile on the test drive.

It is an actual part that is fitted underneath the wiper arms under the rain tray . As far as I'm aware unless you already have it you can't fit it to a car which doesn't have it.

Some people like it . Some don't. I agree with you , I think it adds a sporty feel to driving the car. Some people find it loud and annoying and have taken it out.

Quick Google and lots of info comes up.
So long as it is this that's the issue.

I didn't know if it was only introduced at a certain year or not. Only other thing I could think of is that the one he has bought has had its soundaktor removed. Or the one you test drove did have a sports exhaust.

Is there any way I can check for sure if mine has it? Cos if I do and it's not performing correctly then I really want to get it fixed.
