Hey guys!

Quick question. Had a bit of an experience today, was out shopping and my key fob stopped working, the car wouldnt unlock!?

Guess the battery had gone, so had to use the manual unlock

Is it common for the batteries to die on the key fobs, never had one go before on any car, maybe just lucky haha! Also what sort of battery would I need to replace?

They tend to fail over time and locking / unlocking become intermittent and the operating range reduces.

In some locations the keyfob can be affected by ambient electrical noise causing it not to function.

They're a CR2025 battery. I have two on the desk here if you get stuck.

For anyone reading this later like me. There seems to be some debate over the correct battery correct. Some say OEM is cr2025 (USA références I’ve seen). In our 2010 UK Scirocco both keys had cr2032 batteries as does our Golf mk6.

The cr2025 and cr2032 are the same apart from thickness. The cr2032 is 0.7mm thicker but fits. Its 3V like the cr2025 and also has a higher capacity so should last a bit longer.

Unhelpfully the owner’s manual shows how to open the key fob, but does not specify the battery type.
