Well to say I'm disappointed.....
Went to see a guy about doing a remap on my 'roc and was informed that the ecu needs to be done on the bench.......
Just got to wait a couple of weeks now so that I can be without the car for a day......

I thoguht it was only older engines that needed to be bench mapped. for the old 1.8T engines that came in the 1998 audi a3 etc

It all depends on the level of encryption used on the ECU for that engine and model year. It's continually changing to make it harder to map through the OBD port for 3rd party companies.

If it's an older 1.4 160 i'd be very careful. they are riddled with problems running at stock power... mine shit its pants a few weeks ago and i'm having a nightmare now since its out of warranty.
Once you touch the power you can kiss any chance of goodwill repairs goodbye.

It's a 2012. It's a company in Willenhall. Not a tuner, but someone I trust very much with my car.
Basically it's an encrypted tri-core envy so needs to be done on the bench.

As its a 2012 I believe the issues and problems were ironed out by then.

On a side note the new MKVII Golf can be mapped via the OBD port, but leaves witness traces in the ecu for VCDS to pick up at the dealers

Any remap will be detectable when at the dealers
Google TD1 flag. Basically when any remapped car at the dealers gets plugged in for anything it automatically flags up .

I wasn't aware of that. I thought only the more modern ecu's flagged.
