You just need to insert your vin number.

It appears I have one of those E189 engines and from what I learned in the 2000cm3 engines you only need to update your car software but will that have any affect in my car's performance??

Mine is........

Now we wait....

Hopefully they'll just give us all a nice cheque to cover any potential loss. Ill use the Cheque to get a proper remap and the DPF removed....

Jokes aside, is this going to be compulsory? I'm tempted to get mine serviced at the main dealer in a few K just to keep the FVWSH upto date. Mines on the long service plan so I dont think £299 every 20k is that bad, but if theyre gonna mess with it when its in, ill avoid them. I cannot see how this isnt going to affect at least one of them:

MPG
Performance
Tax Price (although the government have said this wont happen, and its measure on CO2 isnt it??)
Resale Value

I'm not going to lie and say I bought the car cause of the emissions. I didnt, I dont give a toss about the stuff coming out he back (I know I know, think of the children), but I cant see how at least one of the above 4 isnt going to be affected? If it was that easy they wouldnt have cheated surely?

Resale value is my biggest worry

I wouldn't have thought there'd be any difference to any of those, or if there is it will be unnoticeable. These same engines have got through the tests in other unaffected cars haven't they?

With regards resale value, if there's going to be a hit it would be now with all the hysteria and panic driven up by the press. Give it 6 months or a year it'll be as if this never happened.

I think this could be the turning point on diesel vehicles and petrol/hybrid will be the immediate future technology. I can't help but feel the tide will turn against diesels because of the Nox pollutants being emitted. I also cycle a lot and dread diesel vehicles passing me, especially the older ones because of the high levels of pollution.

With much more stringent pollution targets and so on, there is bound to be even tighter legislation on emissions of new diesels and would not surprise me if VED goes back up on these as well.

Keep checking the vin of your car on the site. Not all the affected cars will go on at the same time, they'll keep adding them as they get to them. That's what's happened on the Skoda site.

On the 1.6 it will be revised injectors and a software update. 1.6 is not applicable to the Scirocco.

On the 2.0 it will be a software update.

Got my letter today too. "Technical solutions are currently being developed and the matter is being worked on with the utmost priority."

I do hope this fix isn't going to reduce performance, because the 140ps engine isn't exactly too pokey as it is.

This is obviously a load of rubbish, but the "rumoured" replacement engine.....

Yea, its the 150 Euro 6 one, which isnt affected I believe. Cant see this happening, but at the same time, if its as simple as a software update, why wasnt this just released with this? Unless its massively inferior to the current software in terms of performance/economy.

The only thing certain right now is aftermarket remaps companies are rubbing their hands with glee!

The UK VW guy who was in front of the transport select committee categorically stated that "emissions and performance would not be affected by the fix"

In the UK, is there really a "fix", or is it just a case of them turning off/removing the "defeat" element of the software? As the tests over here are different to those in the states, this defeat would not be required...
