Whiney noise when revving engine
Hi, I recently bought a 2008 scirocco 2.0 tsi, it has done 62000. Im having a problem with a whiney noise when revving engine, happens in gear and out and seems to increase with revs. Im thinking it is the auxiliary belt pulley but not sure if I’m right. If it is is it easy to replace and would I need a new tensioner and aux belt as well?…is there any other belts pulleys I should get changed at this mileage while Im at it? cheers

Sure it's not the turbo spooling up that you're hearing?

No pretty sure its not the turbo, its a definite constant whine which is always there and increases with engine speed

I have exactly the same, vw had the car for 3 days last year to try and locate the source. They then said it was a characteristic of the engine. The noise still persists and everything still works so gave up.

Hmm, air con compressor is below the drive bet pulleys isn’t it?…how much was the labour to change that? should I just bite the bullet and change the compressor, drive pulley, tensioner and belt? can get the pulley, tensioner, belt and water pump for £120…compressor looks about £195.
