Are 2nd hand Sciroccos over priced or under priced?!!

Hey guys,

So i have been thinking of selling my Scirocco as i teach in the Middle East most of the time and she is just garaged. But looking on eBay etc at prices and the prices seem all over the place. The classifieds seem to all start at around 8k but if a car sells on auction it goes for way below this. I saw one recently go for under 6500! Is that because being a coupe, Sciroccos aren't in demand? Do the ones on classifieds stay for sale for a long time because their prices are high? I understand that a car is only worth as much as what someone is willing to pay, but surely the auctions represent that most Sciroccos are overpriced? It also seems like a car that is really hard to gauge how much it is worth.

Also, surely this guy is selling his at a it super low price no?

I would say it's all relevant. The car in the ad is high mileage and not full vw history. At that price it could be cat c or d. If you look at the other scirocco's for around that price their either high mileage or insurance write-offs.
Recently I've seen 3 scirocco's in local garages and all have sold in less than 2 weeks. They weren't priced cheap either.
You need to base your price on condition, mileage and history.
If I was selling mine I wouldn't be using eBay!

If the cars cheap there has to be a reason in my opinion.

Yes- that one does seem crazily cheap even given the very high mileage. There is an 09 plate Scirocco for sale near me (52K on the clock) for £11,995!

I've just sold my 09 2.0 tsi with 56k on the clock for £9k part exchange allowance against a very good priced 13 plate GTS with all options, 15,000 miles, stripes removed and full VW history. My car plus £10k. I could have probably got more for my part ex if sold privately but I was happy with the deal as only paid £12,450 for it nearly 3 years ago and to be honest didn't want any hassle.

Mine was in good condition for its age, black, pano roof, winter pack, satnav but does need; 2 new tyres, service shortly, alloy scuffs, stone chips and door edges sorting and in my experience things tend to start going wrong after 50k.

The chap taking it in part ex will have to service it, possibly mot as runs out in Feb, tidy the chips and scuffs etc, 2 new tyres and will probably advertise for £10,950 but then he has to give some sort of warranty.

Wouldn't surprise me if that advert for the white one was a scam or a cat C/D.

I paid £8k for my Scirocco and I got that very very very very cheap as it was from the MD of a company one of my best mates worked at (their ex company car).
They got offered £8500 trade but offered it to me for £8k cash
I could sell it for more than that even now I've put 35k on it.

The R is the one to go for in terms of residuals or the 170tdi

My GT dropped like a stone, sold my wife's GTI bought at same time cost £2K less and sold it for more than the GT over 2 years later

Use auto trader for prices for specific models. You have to compare specs, mileage etc. Like for like. You can't compare an R with 5k miles with a 140TDI with the same.

i paid just over 13K for my 59 plate 170 TDI but it did have probably the lowest mileage i've seen on a scirocco that isn't brand new.

Overpriced if you're buying and underpriced if you're selling:-)

SO i have decided to take the plunge. Reluctant to sell her but i won't be in the UK until June next year so there isn't much point in garaging her for all that time. I can always buy another i guess. Thanks for all the help. Iv put a couple of adverts on some internet sites as well as on here so if you guys know anyone who is wanting a nice Scirocco then let me know! :)

Cheers guys.

I've just bought a 2012 2.0TDI GT, 28k miles, £15k.

Compared to what else you can get of a similar size and power then Sciroccos are overpriced, as is everything else that's German. But another plus of buying is that you know they'll hold their value (put the deposit down day before the scandal broke, time will tell how true this stays..!)

Main dealer wouldn't budge a penny on the price, so managed to waggle a full paint/dent/alloy refurb, free service and free Lego campervan :D

Too late now I guess, but what do you guys think? Good deal?
