Insurance
Just a quick question regarding my insurance, a couple months ago I was involved in an side collision accident with another driver, they admitted full liability for it and the third party insurance paid for all repairs on my car ect. I've just received my renewal through by email... When I got my scirocco in 2014 admiral quoted me £700 or something and I ended up haggling with them and got it down to say £600 so my first year was £600. My renewal price I've just got is £1920 lol as there lines are not open I can't ring them just yet and wanted to gather a bit of info before i do ring them.... Surly this must be just an automated email and they haven't put it down as a non fault claim? What's the crack with that? I don't really wanna switch insurance companies as they've been good but I'm not paying that amount of money.. Anybody with knowledge on this? (My 3 years NCB hasn't been effected as they've put it down on my document that I still have them) thanks.

Re: Insurance
They will claim a few factors at play here
Risk - their logic will be that you are now a higher risk having had one accident even non fault. They will claim this statistically hence the higher base premium before they apply your no claims discount.
I would want to make sure that this declaration of fault is correctly applied to the renewal as many insurance companies assume liability in a renewal quote until all the dust has settled.
It could also be their way of saying we don't want this business anymore, so a quick shop around may mean you see a drastic drop but you will have to declare the accident.

Re: Insurance
Ok mate thank you, I read that if you have an accident fault or non fault they think you may have another one lol ridiculous thing ever.
I'll ring them once they've opened and see what they say.
Keep you posted.

Re: Insurance
Not ridiculous at all actually. As already said statistically you are much more likely to be involved in another collision having been involved on the original one. Your fault or not. No it's not fair, but insurance companies base all calculations on the statics of crashes and you are now statistically a higher risk.
I'd phone around or go onto a comparison site and get a quote so at least when you call your current company you have another quote for them to compete against.

Re: Insurance
If u do comparison likely one of admirals subsidiaries (elephant/bell) will quote top anyway. Hit the aggs before ringing so u have best rates, if admiral group r top on the aggregator they will match internally. Go armed. Else they may fob u off and say how do u know that's expensive if u have no alternative rates. Stats show more likely to be involved in an incident if already had one, I'm an underwriter so I know this is true when u look at the stats. However there are some insurers out there that actively target clients who have had an incident.

Re: Insurance
They ended up knocking it down to around £1600 and said that's the best they can do, my policy runs out on the 15th so I've left admiral now and have until the 15th to go elsewhere, I've been getting a few quotes for £700 which I can live with. One guy also explained to me that because my claim is still open and haven't been settled it counts as a fault accident still and not a non fault till it's fully settled then my insurance should go down again... Is that true?

Re: Insurance
Is a claim is still open, usually the insurer with not allow your no claims bonus until a full recovery is made - the the claim is settled. So u should probably double check that admiral have allowed the bonus otherwise u will end up with a large additional premium to pay to your new insurer if u can't produce it. That could be true, if u have disclosed the claim as pending (u may want to call whoever your quote is with to explain it is open still as on screen it always counts as fault ) once settled and full recovery made this can mean a return premium if the insurer u r going with has charged u extra in the first place, the best way to know if ask them on the phone before u take out the policy and double check the ncd- more than likely premium will stay the same as although claim is pending - sounds like admiral are confident its a non fault (or they would not have allowed your no claims bonus) - hope that helps.

Re: Insurance
Thanks mate, admiral have sent me through my documents online saying that I have 3 years no claims and a guy on the phone said also I have 3 years, so sounds like I do. Just gonna have to shop around really. Thanks though.greg7728 wrote:Is a claim is still open, usually the insurer with not allow your no claims bonus until a full recovery is made - the the claim is settled.
