Wing mirror adjustment gone wrong

Hello,
A couple of weeks ago, I adjusted the driver's side wing mirror, but noticed that the passenger side mirror also moved. So I switched over to the passenger side and adjusted that one, and it worked fine. But whenever I adjust the driver's side mirror, both mirrors move together. Over the nearly 3 years I've owned the car, I've adjusted the passenger mirror far more often than the driver's mirror - to see the kerb when I'm reversing into a parking space. But the car has only done about 18,000 miles and is normally parked in a garage, so I only very rarely reverse into parking spaces and adjust the mirror.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

I've tried turning the adjustment knob/joystick around repeatedly in case it's some dirt caught in the contacts or something, but it has not helped. Might it be some kind of firmware glitch causing it?

The car is out of warranty.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Stop worrying, what you describe is normal operation. When you adjust the driver's mirror both adjust and the passenger one cuan be adjusted independently. It's so thaI if different drivers use the car, you only need to adjust the driver's one and the passenger one knows the offset and automatically compensates for the driver's change of position.

The function can be disables in the convenience settings within the settings menu within the MFD, if you have Highline. If not, you need VCDS to change the convenience settings.

Also., have you checked your car doesn't have the automatic passenger mirror dip on reverse function to save you manually adjusting it when you reverse.

Again it's another setting within the convenience menu and you need the joystick set to "L" for it to work. If you have it you may need to set the reverse dip position.

Have a read of the manual:-)

Thanks for your reply!

I have seen, a long time ago, something in the settings about the mirrors, and hoped it was the elusive passenger-mirror-dip-on-reverse function, but alas, it wasn't. But I'm sure that the mirrors used to be entirely independent, and they've only recently changed their behaviour. I'll take a nose through the settings tomorrow.

there is a setting in vcds that switches them from independent to synchronised movement think its in instruments.
