Replacement Keys - ebay cheapies?

Hello,

I need to buy another spare for my car,

Did a quick search on this but nothing obvious came up.

Been quoted £95 to code and cut a new key for my Rocco. Or he can supply a non-genuine key and programme it for £160. Genuine was £200. Is that about right? From a 3rd party, not VW, mind.

He said I could get a blank on eBay that would work fine.

These ones seem seriously cheap, £4 for a key?! Are they good? Or bogus.

EDIT: Just noticed they "Have no internal electronics" - well that's bloomin useless. Back to square one!

Any other advice here is appreciated.

Cheers

A key for my Clio RS200 was £180 from Renault, thankfully warrenty covered it, so £200 from VW sounds about right.

As long as it worked it wouldn't bother me if it was genuine or not.

Sounds about right then.

I've found some on ebay (auctions, so no idea what they'll go for) with the internals and a blank blade. So I might get one of those on auction then just get it cut/programmed for the £100.

As you say, I don't care for genuine as long as it works.

Damn! Nice tip. Thanks man. I was quoted £120 by another 3rd party which included a key. Thought that was decent but I'll check that guy out cheers!

One thing to bare in mind if you go through vw it can take up to 3 weeks to get your key! I was waiting 2 and a half weeks for mine it's coming from Germany[emoji106]
