Anyone ever had a loud metal vibrating noise in the rear (drivers side i think) when driving over steep bumps and holes in the road or even on rough roads? Took everything out from the boot and checked the spare wheel and the kit to see if that was loose. nope.
Iv checked and messed around with the tailgate bumpers and they seem all ok.
Begining to think it maybe wheel bearing or even the springs?
It sounds like something big came loose and It just started yesterday and its driving me mad.
Anyways its got a MOT today, so i will ask VW to check it out...

wheel bearing will be a very loud whirring noise. may very well be a spring but if it was the rear one broken then the whole rear drivers side would collapse as it isnt contained. could be a whole manner of things tbh mate. Vw should find it.

Had something similar a few months ago, turned out it was the last 2" of the spring that had broken and was rattling around in the 'cup' where it seats. There is a drain hole, and if it had fallen through I probably would never of known it was broken! Got it sorted under warranty

Got the result back. ..Yeh broken spring! Got extended warranty so hoping to get it done with that. The vw guy say is recommended that it's replaced as a pair. Is it worth doing it as a pair though I'm not sure if i have to pay for the non broken one or just get the broken one replaced?
Thanks

As above really, always replace any suspension part in pairs.
As for the warrenty part when I broke a front shock on the Nurburgring in my old Clio RS200 Renault replaced but under warranty with no cost at all to me.

Thanks for the help guys. unfortunately they didn't have any courtesy cars available at the time which I was annoyed about. They won't be looking at it or working on it till Monday so had to arrange my own transport. will call them today if any cars are available.

Haha no courtesy cars. They tried that one on me as well... ended driving a passat cc home. No way do i spend 400 quid a month to be told ill have to rent my own car. Make sure they reimburse you that cost...

So story so far, rear spring snapped and also a oil leak on the front shock absorber. Claiming this on extended warranty VW have now said they are only able to replace the damged items only and not as a pair.
Did any of you guys get yours done as a pair under warranty?
VW Peterborough really starting to annoy me...offer the work done as a pair..then say they cant..no courtesy car.

say it like this to them, ahem.
Right, so its good practice to change both springs, and your'e just going to change one? so ive paid 20k plus for my new car, and your going to give it a half arsed repair? Ask to speak to the manager, and if they wont do it, tell them youll take it elsewhere and get it repaired (another vw garage). The way id put it is, ive spend thousands on a new car from what i thought was a reputable company. And now ive got no car, due to crap quality parts? and if you do replace them, ill have a car that has odd parts on it which could have slightly different load ratings, and spring ratio?? How dare they do that to you. tell them if they dont do it youre going to phone head office and demand giving the car back due to horrendous customer service.
Good luck mate. and DEMAND a couresy car! and dont pay for it! but your best bet is head office.

Not Volkswagen but Renault for me replaced my front shock absorbers as a pair despite the fact that only one was gone and the service manager I was dealing with knew I'd had it on the Nurburgring the previous week. No questions asked!
Also social media is a powerful force. Find VW customer service on Facebook and Twitter and message them on there.
