Joined he forum recently hoping to introduce myself with some pics etc, but still working on uploading pics. I have an iPad so it's not easy. Im from a small village near Caerphilly in s Wales and own an 09, 1.4 tsi in black. 20 inch alloys on there and lowered nicely. Looks the bees knees....lwhich isn't hard as these cars are class. Anyway, i was hoping to ask a couple of questions if I may. I had a fairly bad smash in February and had the front left side rebuilt etc. had her back about 2 weeks ago (which is when I joined, hoping to share my delight and show her off a bit) so I decided to give my calipers the once over, and basically I've cross threaded one of the wheel hub bolt holes. It's definitely the hub as I've tried the other nuts in there. Very stupid heavy handed thing to do I know, but was wondering if there were any fixes other than replacing the hub?

Run a plug tap of the appropriate thread size down into it. It's M14 x 1.5 says Google. Then if the wheel bolt (it's a bolt not a nut) goes in ok and torques up properly I would think you're ok.

The thread is not a standard metric thread, 1.75 is the normal pitch for this size, ie M14 x 1.75, so a form of metric fine tap is what you need and it won't be easy to find or cheap. Try your local small independent garage. A new hub from a breakers may be cheaper.

Just had another thought. If you can find a spare wheel bolt you can improvise a tap with an undamaged bolt just cut a wide (a mm or so wide) square edged slot down one side of the bolt at right angles to the threads with an angle grinder (it's certainly damaged now). Then run this fully into the hub, will take some force, without the wheel fitted and any damaged threads will get pushed into the slot and cut off. Take it out and try fitting a good bolt. If it goes in ok and torques up ok you're sorted.

Bin the modded bolt, check the appearance of the threads for damage on all bolts that you have used in this hole since it was cross threaded. Refit with the spare bolt.

Hi again

Sorry for what is probably a stupid question, but are parts (hubs in my case) interchangeable? I've found a few sciroccos that are being broken, but they're 2.0 litre.
