VW has dropped the new 220ps engine in the scirocco GT and R line this week... due to new euro regulations !!! at the moment these models are now only available in 180ps, i ordered a new 2ltr GT 3 weeks ago and it was confirmed today i will get my 220ps engine in the car because of the date of the order...

Not if it is relaunched in a few weeks with 230PS :-)

My expectation is that both the Golf GTI.and Scirocco will get 230PS, as is currently.available with the optional Performance Pack on the GTI at the moment.

EU regs reason for dropping sounds odd considering the EA888 is used widely across the VAG range and is relatively recent.

Normal GTI will get 230PS as standard and Edition 40 will be released with 280PS
Just my supposition

that sounds all good... VWs with more power is a very exciting prospect, dealer told me its something to do with emissions

I doubt very much is to do with emissions. They said the same when they dropped the R before the facelift, and low and behold the new facelift R still has the old EA113 in it, despite Skoda and Seat having the EA888 with 280PS output.

Dealer just told you that because if he told you the truth you may have cancelled your order:-)

Again only my supposition but irrespective of the reason you'll the car.

Hi, have you had a build date confirmed and are you sure your getting the older spec engine. I only ask because I ordered a diesel 184 R-line on the 18th of April and I've been told by VW customer services that mines not being built until after the model changes come in later in May.

no, having build date on Monday I hope, dealer told me no model changes are taking place for a long time, the car is due end of june

not sure what you mean by model changes

Hi, the cars are getting a few changes from build week 22 (25 May onwards ) I know the R-line, and I think the GT get the Discover infotainment system, and a few other things have been updated.

ok thanks, it looks like we've ordered our cars around the same time and I should be getting a build week early next week so ill keep in touch and let you know, they did say that there had been a slight delay with my build week because they were securing the 220 engine for me.

i ordered gt 220 ps on 13 april, was told no longer available , only comes with 180ps engine from now on. was ready to cancel order and dealer upgraded me to an r line at no extra cost . only found out when tracking my order and noticed the engine had changed !

I think there can be little doubt VW will fit the 230 bhp engine that is in the Audi TT.

yes you are correct 220 ps is no longer available but they did give me the option of 220 with old spec or 180 with the new bits, so ive come to a deal with the dealer they are upgrading my 180ps GT with Sioux leather at no extra cost, so should look nice with my other options Aztec gold, Lisbon wheels, panoramic sunroof and xenon's, and the car is 2 grand cheaper .... so very happy with the outcome and got build week 24. and there's always an option of a remap to reach 210ps-220ps

There is a full road test of the Scirocco R-Line 220PS in the June issue of VW Driver, somewhat academic though as they have dropped the 220PS version from the range.

VW UK won't offer the MY2016 GTS then?

All I know are the facts and they are the 220 engine is not available to buy on the VW website anymore, and neither is the GTS, the 180ps is still a 2ltr petrol engine so is it just a case of them not doing a factory remap anymore... I don't know?, there is obviously some marketing strategy going on here!

Yes - I think it is marketing strategy and certainly not anything to do with emissions.

Seems then that the GT won't be offered with anything above an 180PS engine now with the 220PS engine being offered exclusively for the GTS when it arrives.
