I used to scoff at folk who used waterless car wash as lazy mans solution, expensive and a way to scratch your paint, but a few years ago while I was in America and owned a Black car I came across the stuff called "dri wash n'guard" which was really amazing. It lifted dirt, hazed up, buffed off like wax and left an anti static shine that repelled dust and looked absolutely brilliant. I've never found its equal since coming back the the UK, and importing the stuff sounds like a real pain...

I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good (really good) waterless car wash product that is readily available in the UK? I've using go-waterless now, and it does the job, but it's not as good as the "Dri Wash".

If anyone else is a fan of the stuff, I'd love to hear what you are using and any recommendations.

I'm always open to learning new things but I think I'd be too scared to use it on my new paintwork without going through my pre wash routine. I do however like some of the detailing or quick wax sprays that can be used if you have not got time to properly wax.

I'd be interested to know how it's done. Excuse my ignorance but what stops dirt lifted on your cloth from scratching the paint? I'm a bit on the OCD side when it comes to rinsing my clothes and sponges. I even saw a supercar valleter who had a clean bucket of hot water to wash his shampoo sponge inbetween washing. As I was typing a reply I just had my delivery of purple haze polish.

That's called the 2bm...
2 bucket method. And is the most popular wash procedure on dw.
The idea is you rinse all the crap into a clean bucket and then go back to the shampoo bucket. That way your shampoo bucket doesnt get full of dirty water and crap. Believe me it works. Takes a little longer but I do it. Then take a look at just the water bucket at the end and you will see how dirty it is.

And the purple haze is a wax not a polish. 2 different things ..

On the subject of waterless wash....
I'm not a fan and not something I would personally do. I have read detailed guides on how to do it. Seen threads on people doing and talked about it on detailing world. And even then I still don't see how it won't at some point scratch your car with any dirt or grit picked up in the cloth whilst wiping.
Imo if you can avoid doing it then avoid it. It would have to be the last option for me to do it.

Just goes to show how little I know still because I thought you get wax polish and they were one and the same?

So what is the difference to polishing your car after washing it and waxing your car?

Polish will restore your paint removing swirl marks, scratches and oxidisation, wax is referred to as LSP, last stage protection, this adds gloss , shine and protection to you paint.
So after washing you would polish the car to remove any minor paint defects like swirls etc. Then follow up with a wax to give the paintwork protection against uv rays and the dreaded bird shit etc..

To put it simple polishing the paintwork will make it shiny. Adding a wax will protect the paint and usually increase the gloss as well.

Soooo Many people think polishing and waxing are the same thing. They are not.

So that's a no then... haha

Nothing at all, but not all of us can wash on the street, or have a drive - and the local car wash is terrible (no soap most of the time, and a ratty brush that would do more ham than good). But it cuts right through dirt and lifts it. I may have to bite the bullet and order it from America. If I do I'll make a wee video

Waterless wash, sponge, non scratch, can't wash outside with water? Mmmmm..................I rather not wash my car at all, if i could manage one wash before selling it, then it would be in a better condition!

Hate waterless wash, should be banned and you certainly can't be anal about having a clean car if you use waterless wash!

Sorry, that sounded like a rant........just my opinion!

I keep a bottle of the JML viper stuff in my boot with the rags just for bird poo as I can't leave it on the paint and have to remove it asap

I also recommend the waterless wax from "Carkit" as I use that on my bike where waterless wash/wax is ideal

I would always use the good old fashioned water method tho if you can lol

You have a point there Wiz about getting bird crap off asap.

Im selective about it as I use it as a show wash (poor boys) but there is no f**king way anything but water is gonna take bird poo off. Scratched the roof of my first car just wiping it

2 weeks after getting my new car I parked near a tree for an hour and it was covered in about 20 bird craps.

I took no chances and went straight home to get the trusty hose pipe going.

Mine got peppered with flying rat shit yesterday, it was baked on as well because it was sunny.
