Looking into the possibility of buying a Scirocco!

Hey,

I am interested in buying a Scirocco GT 2.0 tsi and just want to know a few things. I have a budget of £12k max so I was wondering what I could be looking at for that money.

Also:

* How reliable are these cars ?
* DSG or manual ?
* How fun are they to drive?
* What is fuel economy like ?

I am torn between either this or a Megane RS 250!

Fun fun fun!
I got a 2.0tsi 26,000 miles 59 plate about a year ago for 13k.
That's from a VW dealer with year warranty.
So assuming you could get a 60 plate for the same a year later.
I went for manual. I prefer full control! Just personal preference.
Decent mpg. Get up to 44mpg on long motorway runs the 50mph roadworks help the mpg.
Day to day 37mpg and give it a good thrashing a few times on the way to work!

Doo it! :)

Cheers buddy!

Going by the pictures that i've seen, the interior looks really good. What is it like in person? Just as impressive ? And do all come with the centre console?
I have heard mixed reviews about the driving, some say that is a lot of fun being behind the wheel, others say it's rather boring!
Generally speaking, is it pricey to insure one of these ?

Responses on a Scirocco forum may be a little biased:-)

Go have a look at one, drive one and make up your own mind.

Don't mean to be harsh but all the answers to your questions are subjective.

In my.opinion;

Very reliable (touch wood)
Personal preference, you either love or hate DSG.
Good to drive but I wouldn't say fun.
50mpg average (170 diesel)

In my opinion, the mk3 Scirocco is a very special car to own. It looks absolutely gorgeous (especially with the r body kit), it is reliable and surprisingly spacious.
I do agree with Cuprabob when saying that is good to drive, but not that fun. That was also my first impression: the engine was awesome, but the steering feel was a real letdown. The good news is, that with a couple of mods you can have the fun car to drive as well:
- super pro alloy wishbones with adjustable ball joints, and some lowering springs.

To wrap this up, I don't really see another alternative to the Scirocco in that price range(especially second hand).

Cheers boys, I'm pretty much set on a Scirocco now. It's just a matter of finding the right one.
I've upped my budget to £13k as i've seen some pretty nice ones going for that price, if I need to save a little longer then so be it, it will be worth it :)
I would probably prefer a manual, but DSG doesn't put me off (although I do want to test drive both and see).
The colours I am looking for would be either white, black or blue!
Max mileage of 40k.

I am willing to travel quite a distance for the right one, so If anyone sees one for sale that matches what I'm after then please give me a shout :yes:
