Scirocco Central

Hi Guys,

I noticed my Scirocco is set-up for servicing every 10k miles or 1 year. I easily fulfill the long life criteria driving over 50 miles a day and having done 1200 miles in 3 weeks. Does anoyone know how to switch between the two servicing types and whether there is any detriment to going long life?

I was led to believe its every 20k or 2 years but could alter depending on the way you drive and the onbaord computer will let you know anyhow?

Personally I will change oil every 1000 miles which is what I use to do on my previous cars

Should that be change oil every 10000 miles?

Service can be on Time base service plan 12months/12.5K miles or Long Life 24months/20K miles http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/plans I expect the dealer has to change the plan the cars on.

Occording to this link http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/comm ... vicing.pdf all cars are set to long life on delivery and the dealer can change it during PDI.

Nope I change my cars oil every 1000 miles, all my cars have been performance cars in the past, and I will be taking my car on track as well as having revo installed so I like to change the oil frequently, regardless of servicing, servicing I will probably have done every 9k or sooner depending on how many trackdays I have been on

That must be expense and time consuming. How many changes do you do a year?

10 ish changes a year, my car doesnt move all week, I try to change brake fluid and gearbox oil a couple of times too. Last thing I want is a failure half way round the nurburgring as that could cost a lot more than changing the oils

Yeh it deos say cars should be set up for long life servicing but if you hold down the 00 button it tells me that mine is due in 349 days hence its not been set-up for long life servicing.

had my dealer run some smt figures today for the scirocco based on 20k a year over three years, interestly this worked out pro-rata slightly more expensive than our gti pirelli, i never realised the smt cover extended the vw assistance package as well

Not heard of that before.

I had SMT on my Gti prior to the rocco, based on 18000 a year. i calculated in advance how many tyres I would go though plus 3 servicings and it worked out slightly cheaper so I went for it.. Turned out that I got better wear than expected out of the tyres even with a full MIlltek and Remap so on a bog standard car the tyre wear would be even less so in my opinion it ain't worth it. I mean, what other maintenance bits other than wipers will you need ? Unless you tracked it the brake pads will last 3 years ( I did drive my GTi pretty hard).

On the point about long life servicing, the lads at APS recommend not to have it as the oil goes "gummy" as it ages and this can cause the oil strainer to become blocked leading to partial oil starvation at the top of the engine leading to premature wear of the cam lobes etc. If you do not plan to keep the car long term then its probably not an issue as this is more aimed at 60k milers. I am gonna get mine done every 10k regardless.

I guess I could have the car on a long life service plan with the 2 year 20k service done at VW but get the oil changed by my local friendly mechanic each year in between.

I guess theroetically the car will have a full VW history that way?
