Car Insurance Conundrum

(Sorry if this seems like its in the wrong forum - please move if so)
Hey Everyone,
Wonder if anyone could help me with some ideas here...
Scirocco order (lease) has seemingly "slipped" a few weeks, which leaves me with a bit of a problem.
Originally I was advised it should be arriving the 3rd week in May.. Hurrah you say as it means its just around the corner, however unfortunately its now not arriving till 2nd or 3rd week in June (no idea why!)
Unfortunately my poor little MK3 Golf runs out of MOT at the end of May, and my insurance renewal was due on the 2nd June.
I wouldn't mind re-MOTing it (even tho my plan is to have it off the road and do some work to it) but the insurance is a bit of an issue - I rely heavily on being able to get about and have several long distance road trips I need to undertake in early June, herein lies the conundrum.
Originally friends suggested I should renew my policy then just switch to the new vehicle - which sounds fine, however the company I am with at the moment specialise in modifications (because of my modifications etc) and cannot offer me a competitive quote on the Scirocco as well, so id be paying a premium for renewing with them for a year (and switching the policy to the Scirocco) when the car is due so soon. (Around about £300 a year extra!)
However the company that I intend to go with while offering me a nice low rate for the Scirocco, will not insure for modifications so I cannot start a policy with them and switch to the Scirocco.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what I should do, or suggestions of any kind really.
Hiring a car for the times I need works out far too costly.
Leasing company won't give me a courtesy car, and either way I wouldn't have insurance.
Short term insurance policies cost as much as a year would so that's also pointless exercise.
And work won't let me borrow the pool cars for personal use without insurance (work use is fine as its under their insurance etc).
My only option currently is to get myself added as a named driver on my dads insurance and borrow his 4x4 for a bit, this would be fine but the brakes are a bit iffy and not sure what the cost would be yet - so before I go down this route id like to hear if anyone has any handy ideas!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I just can't wait to get my new car!
