Scirocco Central

I have decided to start a new thread for my new R on order as I intend to do a lot of mods. Inspired by all the great cars on here and the fact I am addicted to car modifying.

So I have on order a brand new R in Rising Blue with the following options:

DSG gearbox with electric diff
RNS 510 head unit with Dynaudio digital 400w amp & speaker system
Keyless ignition/push start
Winter pack with heated washers
Folding mirrors in gloss black
Cruise control
Recaro leather/alcantara sports seats

Ready to fit mods:
H&R 35mm drop springs
Cades Shift lightweight 20" alloys
Michelin Pilot Super Sport 245/30/20 tyres.
VWR air intake
VW 15 ROC number plate

AS soon as I get the exact delivery date I will book it straight in for the APR stage 1+ map & HPFP.

No idea when it is going to be delivered but I did set the date back 10 days by changing my order to include the Recaro seats. After seeing the pictures of them recently I thought they are the icing on the cake to finish off the great Rocco R look.

If only I had the money and talking of which may I ask what this spec set you back?? you picked all the options I would have.

What are you doing with the old wheels?

I will check and let you know mate. I think I got about £2.5k dealer discount and £1.5k finance contribution. I's worth getting finance even if you have the cash because you can pay it off in full after 3 months with no penalties.

Lewis the R wheels are going on my R Line as I already have the 20's fitted. I sold my original wheels, but not fussed because I like my 20's better than the standard Cadiz 19's.

Looks like my car should be arriving in 3 weeks so I am looking at ordering parts to start my build. As I want to run the car for 3-4k miles to make sure everything is ok I have decided to start with the suspension.

Parts I have just ordered after reading all the great advice are as follows:

VWR 2 way Track Sport coil-overs with adjustable drop links and adjustable top mounts
VWR Alloy Control Arms (wishbones)
VWR Anti lift kit
VWR Roll Centre Adjusting Ball joints (lower)
VWR Transmission Mount (Gearbox Side)
VWR Engine Mount (Engine Side)
VWR Sub-frame Mounts

Funds permitting round 2 should hopefully include a Wavetrack diff, big brakes front & rear and anti roll bars front & rear.

I am really excited and can't wait to be an R owner.

Are you going for the HPFP upgrade just because you know you would tune it more later? Cant see the reason why making a HPFP upgrade on Stage 1+.
Regarding the the engine mount i would skip it. Everything will get really really stiff. The dog bone mount will just make it great!

I was told a stage 1+ tune had to have the HPFP upgrade, although it won't make a difference because I intend to go to at least stage 3 or 4.

Maybe you can say different but VWR said the engine mount was a must if I wanted to go over 400hp or the OEM part will split.

2+ you must have a hpfp. not 1+

Mine is still fresh after 20000km with 300whp+.
And it's not only daily driven

Really nice set of chassis mods, also right thing upgrading all the mounts at once as you just end up wearing the one(s) you haven't upgraded

VWR two ways set up is the best I have driven on a UK Roc

Yes I value your advice Wigit being someone who has tried most of the decent types. I am sure I would have been happy with the B16 or KW DCC sets, but I quiote like the fact I can get all the parts from one manufacturer, who also gave me advice based on fast road and track use. Now I just need the car to turn up.

Well I've decided to change Stu's R build to project 500R, which kind of gives away where I would like to go with it.

I collect it on Friday and fit my newly powder coated gloss black 20s.

Over the last few months I've been getting as much info as possible from this forum, other TSFI based car forums, tuners and owners. The aim is to produce a car that handles well, gets the power down and has 450-500hp. The project will be based more on a quality final product than cost and will be fluid with regards to the hardware used. I don't want to end up with an undriveable figure chasing car, but more an really capable fast road and occasional track car.

My initial wish list could change depending on requirements by the tuners is either a hybrid or big turbo conversion, rods & pistons, intake manifold, turbo back exhaust, intercooler, air intake, non mapped water injection and possible head & timing gear work. The other main thing on the cards will be 4wd.

Stage 1 will be the vwr coil overs, mounts, wishbone kits etc. They are on order so will be fitted in around 3 weeks time.
Stage 2 will be vwr front & rear brakes with their anti roll bars and rear bush kit.

After that I need to stick 3-5k on the clock to make sure everything is going well before planning the drivetrain and power upgrades.

I will post my progress as I go and as always appreciate everyone's views and comments. I have done an equally mad project before so not much point telling me it's a waste of money or I could just buy a better car. In my opinion thie Scirocco is the nicest looking car for under 100k and has tons of potential.

450 -500hp through the front wheels!!! Didn't you consider the Golf R where that power would be useable?

Try stage 2+ for a while! I think anything beyond that is just a waste of power! you just won't have the traction in the first 3 gears and the DSG won't have a clue what to do.

A slippy diff would help to sort things out.

That's the whole point of looking into 4wd James.

Golf Rs are great cars but they just don't look as nice as a Scirocco. A 450hp 4wd Golf would be cool but a Scirocco would be the next level.

It's at the VW garage now and having it's pdi done tomorrow and valeted on Sat before I collect it.

Just got my 20s back today in gloss black powder coat and I will post the pics when I get them on the car Sat afternoon.
