6 Year Service

Hi Guys,
My ROC is coming up to its 6 year Service. From the handbook I see it will need and oil change, spark plug change and air filter renewal.
Can someone give me an indication of the likely cost? I currently have a full VW service history. Should I go to an Independent due to the age of my car?
Thanks
00HVB
PS hope everyone had a great Christmas

Just had a major service as yours is, but included a pollen filter at a total cost of £248 from VW dealer. Not that I paid that amount as had a discounted 2 year VW service plan! The VW fixed price major service is now £299 or you can buy a 2 year plan paying up front for £359.82. If the indy uses VW parts then make sure you get the 2 year guarantee on the work.

Thanks SalsaJoe. In your opinion, is it worth me preserving the FVWSH on an 09 plate? £250 is an awful lot of money for plugs, oil and air filter. You think I could get plugs and oil done, and then change air filter myself to save on the cost?

You could do the lot if you have the car garaged:

The cost of changing the air filter is minimal so may as well get it all done in that case. A good indie will cost less than the stealers and worth getting a stamp in the service book IMHO.

Thanks SalsaJoe.
I've just rang VW they assure me the handbook is wrong and because I had a minor service last year it is due a major service this year. I argued that according to the handbook I only need oil change with oil filter and spark plugs. They couldn't understand how that is possible.
I'm a little confused now. Having read the handbook I feel I am correct.
Should I just take to a local specialist indy? Will it affect the resale value in a years time?
Cheers

A quick update. I had the service today at Vw. £220 lubrication and spark plugs.
They used Shell Helix 10W40 as they said it conforms to 502 standard. I argued that as I was aware it should be 5w30. They said it won't make a difference and that as long admits 502 it will be fine.
Slightly worried now, do you guys think my car will be OK?
Should've taken it an indy right?

That will be fine!

£220 sounds a good price, mine is coming up for 6 year service and I believe the quote is £299 before adding on the MOT.

Oil that meets VW502.00 is fine for Time & Distance service regime. Oil that meets VW504.00 / VW507.00 can be used for both T&D regime and Longlife regime.
Surprised they used 10w40, I would have expected them to use 5w40 for VW502.00
As long as you don't live in a climate with very low ambient temps, I'm sure it will be fine. Next time though, go for either 5w30 or 5w40.
