Long startup from cold

Hi guys, tried searching and can't find a definitive answer on this. I started my Rocco this afternoon from cold and it took around 10 seconds of starter motor noise before the engine kicked in. Once warmed up the car ran and felt fine on a 3 hour motorway journey, but after leaving for 20 minutes and starting up again I have the same drama. Engines a diesel 140 BM, im by no means an expert on car engines so a bit concerned:/

Are you waiting for the glow plug lamp to go off before starting?

At colder ambients it can take a few seconds for it to go out. The glow plug heats the fuel to aid starting in colder temperstures. When the glow plug lamp goes out it indicates the fiel is up to temp and the engine can be started.
