Which model have I bought?

Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2012 Scirocco under the impression that it was the 170hp TDI. Although I should have researched this beforehand it doesn't have any of the 170hp specific details (chrome tipped exhaust, red I) and most alarmingly it has Blue motion. I've never seen a 170 with BM for sale, is that an option for that engine?

I've followed up with the dealer who sold it to me insists its the 170, he said its not the 170 GT but the 170GTD, does that model even exist?

Have I been had?

That's a 140 mate! Check the pdi sheet on the front of the service book, it'll have the engine code on it.

Yeah, just found out about the sticker beside the spare wheel, says 103kw so I've been sold the wrong car!

Thanks for the reply!

If it's a Bluemotion, it's definitely a 140, as the 170 is not available with Bluemotion.

There is no 170 GTD unless you bought a Golf
Scirocco with 170 is only available in the UK as a GT.

There's also a price premium on the 170 too, was it a VW dealer it was bought from? Interesting to know their response to being caught out in a lie!

The dealer isn't contesting it. He offered to map it up to 170 but there aren't many places here (Ireland) that'll do it right. We're still agreeing on compensation.

Personally I don't think I would accept a map to 170bhp in compensation. I don't think that having a TDI140 mapped to 170bhp is the same thing as having an original TDI170. You have been lied to when buying your car, I believe that you need a more valuable compensation than that. One that with it you can pay for a map yourself to whatever bhp you want and have some to spare for all the trouble.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I declined the remapping for that reason. I have to get him out of the mindset that there isn't much of a price difference between a 140 and 170 too.

Sounds like a right wheeler dealer that geezer... Hope he hasn't been lying about everything else!

Just for the record the front brakes are bigger on the 170 over the 140, amongst other things, so another point for discussion
