Hi, I am new to this board and have a question, in the course of 2015 I will be looking to buy a second hand Scirocco. I have a configuration in mind that I want but I really can't decide between 2 engines.
The 2.0 TSI 211 hp or the R. The R is already a pretty beefed up 2-litre. How wil this hold up in the long run? My car now is Peugeot 406 coupé which I have been driving for about 8 years with 10.000 miles/year with absolutely no costs except off course running costs (changed cambelt and waterpump 2 times). Will the R hold up good in the long run ? I've been looking for Rocco R long term tests on the internet but can't find any. Any recommendations ?

Re: What engine
The R is based on the old audi tfsi engine and golf mk5 Gti engine, has a k04 turbo instead of the k03. It's a very reliable engine, with a few minor common faults like with any engine in the world. Would certainly not hesitate in buying one :-)Cueball wrote:Hi, I am new to this board and have a question, in the course of 2015 I will be looking to buy a second hand Scirocco. Re: What engine
If you can find one, the R is the choice to make. I wouldn't worry too much about it being "stressed" as there are many more 2.0 litre engines putting out much higher power. VW are conservative in that respect. Only negative is that the R uses the older cambelt driven EA113 engine whereas the other scirocco 2.0 litre petrols are the newer chain driven EA888. You may look on that as being a positive as it's been a reliable engine over the years.
Re: What engine
Ok, this is good advice, I would at least like to use it for the next decade or so... Off course you never know what time brings...
Another quetion for R owners, is it comfortable too ? I mean, is it a good cruiser for many miles too, or does the noise of the engine/exhaust or hard suspension make it less comfortable as say the 211 2.0 tsi ?
Also, in Belgium the roads are terrible so I would limit the rim size to max 18 inch.

On 18 s you will be fine, ride is much the same as the tsi just a little sharper, on 19s in the uk it's comfortable except when you find a poor road, noise wise if it's a later car I find that without the soundaktor it's quiet, main noise being tyre roar from the bridge stones, so I'll be changing those when they are worn.

I was very surprised with comfort and road noise when I moved to an R form my 122 scirocco. It is a great cruiser but you will feel big bumps obviously.
You only hear the exhaust when booting it, otherwise its very civilised.
