Scirocco Central

I've had my roc for about 4 months and now it's starting to get wet its handling is awful... To the point I don't wanna drive it when there's the smallest bit of rain. Traction control comes on in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear on the straight/sliding round corners even at low speeds - anyone else experience this? All my tyres have at least 4mm of grip as well don't feel like the tyres need changed as they're pretty newish. Any ideas? Cheers!!

Nope no problem with mine. In fact i think its pretty good in the wet. Admittedly it does wheel spin in 2nd and 3rd if you plant your foot to the floor but thats to be expected with alot of torque in the wet.

Not at all, I find ot really good. It does have a fair bit of torque but it's easily managed with careful throttle control.

You either have ditchfinders fitted as tyres or it's down to your driving style.

I came from a 4wd R32 and was pleasantly sirprised how much traction the Scirocco has despite putting allvthat torque through the front wheels.

Cheers guys, must be something to do with the tyres.. There's a miss match of tyres - budget and premium thanks to the previous owner.. What have you guys got on your wheels? There's too many different types ha!

I've got P Zeros which were fitted from the factory and I quite like them. Other ones I like are Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2s and Michelin Pilot Super.Sports.

I have nankang ns20s on my roc and im running around 270-280bhp. Handles great in the wet and dry, beats the goodyears and the falkens I had previously and cost a lot less.

Yep agree with others, change your tyres for a decent brand.

Are you tyres at the right pressure?! In my experience, underinflated tyres increase the rate at which traction control kicks in...

Sorry, Nankangs are not as good as Goodyears.
And yes,I have tried them.


OP - I would fit a set of quality tyres, drove an Octavia VRS yesterday and the front end was washing out at 30mph on a normal speed roundabout, felt very unstable and unsafe.
Good tyres can make a car, likewise, bad tyres can ruin them.

Anything such as Vredestein Vorti, Goodyear Eagle F1s, Michelin PS3/PSS, Dunlop Sportmax RT, etc, you will be fine and have your faith back in your car.

yes the nankangs beat the goodyear sportmax hands down. Cheaper , lasted longer and hold the road so much better. Only bad point was slightly more road noise.

I know people running a lot more power than me and swear by the nankang ns20s.

While everything is subjective I don't think anyone who drives their car hard would agree with you. That is just my opinion anyway

Well that is your opinion and I know a lot of people who will disagree with you.

All I can give is my personal experience the nankangs have come out on top for me.

I wouldn't worry about high performance tyres on a scirocco TDI would be like going to a brothal for a hug

The tyer is only ever as good as the person behind the wheel anyway

True but I would defiantly feel more comfortable going round a corner at speed in the wet knowing I have got high performance tyres rather than the local bargain bucket tyres.

Good tyres and poor driver also make a car, I run nangkand ns2 and they are perfect in dry and wet. Just have to no how to use them

Let's be fair its a TDI scirocco not a 500bhp supercar being driven around a race track

And I really wouldn't be driving hard in the wet on any tyre on public roads it stupid and dangerous and if you crash or worse hit someone else then you only have your self to blame not a "road" tyre

Going to a brothel for a hug would be an option if the price is right hahaha

Why would you not want the maximum amount of available grip?

I have Eagle F1s on my TDI. 170bhp is more than enough to get yourself in trouble. Likewise coming around a unknown corner on a dark road you are lost down, good tyres could be the difference between an accident and not. Also, a child running out infront of you from behind a car, in the wet, a good set of tyres will come to a stop up to 7 or 8 meters faster from 30-40mph... that's a big difference...

The ONLY reason you would put crappy tyres on is cost, trying to save a few quid. To say that you don't "need" a good tyre is a non-argument.

My Dad just bought a Octavia vRS CR170. Same engine as my Rocco. It had some horrible ditchfinders on the front. Within about 30 seconds of pulling off I noticed an awful roaring from the front end, which is nothing more than the cheapy tyre compound making a lot of noise. The FIRST roundabout I came to, attempting to keep up with a pensioner in a 2007 Ford Fiesta left the vRS making a bee-line for the curb, wanting to wash out on the damp, greasy surface. Even my Dad laughed (as I was test driving it for him) at how pathetic they are. This was not driving like an idiot, this was driving in a normal manner, well within the speed limit and in a regular, day to day manner. Difference is some people understand the feedback the car gives them and can detect the limits of grip approaching, which on crappy tyres, especially in the wet, can be alarmingly soon.
They will be immediately swapped.

Wanli S1015, Rockstone Radial F105 and Autogrip F106 are all much better than Goodyears, come at me bro.
