Is my oil temp high?

Post by TNM »

Hi,

Not long bought a 170 GT TDI, I had the same engine in my Passat, in that, the engine oil was always around 90-95c mark, even when in France and the outside temp was 35-40c the oil temp didn't go over 99c.

But my Scirocco seems to be over the 100c mark quite often, even in this weather. I drove 20 miles the other day, and the last few miles were open road, and when I got to a junction the oil temp was 108c! VW told me not to worry, but just seems high to me.

Any one else got similar temps?

Thanks.

Mine is normally around 85-95 depending on the kind of driving.
The highest I've seen was 107 after a long backroad blast and it quickly fell back to mid 90s after a couple of miles of normal driving

My 170 TDI oil temp normally sits between 90 to 100 but often goes up to around 105.

Nothing to worry about

Mine is always at 90 once heated. Although mine is petrol, whether that makes a difference i dont know.

I have two petrol motors. The 160 TSI never seems to get much above 90 even when pushing hard but the golf GTI often gets up to 105 without too much effort. I do not think the temperature sensors are completely accurate. Probably not an issue TNM.
