TSI or TFSI when and how?

Post by TranceTrouble »

hey guys,

been walking around with a question for a couple of months now but when i was browsing the web i came across someone advertising a scirocco with an 2.0 TFSi engine and it triggered my curiosity again.

Now i was trying to find some more info when these 2.0 TFSI engines were used and when a 2.0 TSI was, but i can't seem to find much info on it. So far i can only find a lot of TSI's
My own rocco is a 2008 model (9v033810) 2.0 sport 147KW TSID6F, does this mean it is an TSI or an TFSI? the engine cover states clearly TSI.

Does anyone have a good explanation for this, or any info from when the tfsi engines were used?

converting my build sticker got me even more confused :?

It's really just marketing. TSI used to refer to the twincharger engine and TFSI to the turbo engine as said above, however now the TFSI has been dropped and TSI is used for both.

They are 2 different engines, vw used the tfsi before 2008, in the golf mk5, also used in the Audi range up to 2009. The tsi used in the scirocco is a far more advanced engine with better fuel strategy and more advanced cam timing technology. The tsi also uses a timing chain while the tfsi uses a timing belt. As standard both these engines which use the k03 turbo produce the same power and torque when the tsi was first released, but when mapped the tsi produces more power and torque compared to a mapped tfsi due to the more advanced technology used on the tsi engine. The tsi is an Audi developed engine but for future reference they still name it tfsi on there current cars. Also the scirocco R uses the tfsi engine with the ko4 turbo.

The above is comparison of the 2.0l engine.

So does the Golf MK6 GTi use the same spec engine, turbo and map as the post 2008 Scirocco?

The mk6 uses the tsi like the scirocco, the scirocco never had the tfsi fitted apart from in the R :)
