RNS510 SatNav gets lost

When I bought my new 2011 Scirocco the dealer offered me an upgrade to the RNS510 which I accepted. The upgrade was performed by the dealer and not as a factory-fit.

Over the last few years the SatNav has occasionally placed me in Germany (I'm in Kent in the UK) for quite a long time until eventually deciding I am on the M25 and then routing correctly. Similarly, the accuracy of where I am in Kent is often wrong but a few metres. More recently, the SatNav has been going in completely the opposite direction to the car!

I assumed there was something wrong with the SatNav aerial, so I bought an after-market aerial, connected it up and all was OK for a couple of days, but then the same problem came back. Disheartened, I removed the new aerial and reconnected the dealer-fit aerial and everything was ok, for a couple of days. Now I'm back where I started, with the satnav going in the opposite direction to the car. The compass indicator in the dash also shows the wrong direction.

Is this a known fault with the RNS510 satellite receiver?

Thanks for any help,
Dave

I've read that this is an issue when upgraded to a certain firmware or maps. Your dealer who upgraded your sat nab is responsible. There are workarounds. I think you have to update your firmware.

Thanks for that.

Are there any guides on where to obtain and how to upgrade the firmware? My dealer isn't interested without £££

Plenty about. Just google rns 510 firmware upgrade. There's a website call vwnavi.com. Plenty of advice there.
