Scirocco Central

Hi I am new to posting on forums!
I got my Scirocco GT TDI June 2013. The winter of 2013 really wasn't a proper winter - maybe a couple of icy mornings, but hardly anything.
I am concerned about what I need to do to my car in way of changing tyres to make sure I remain safe.
Previous to this Scirocco, I owned a Honda Civic 2.2 TDI - this car was amazing in both snow and ice, I didn't have to change anything or do anything. I didn't ever feel out of control or that the car was sliding. But in the Scirocco I have had several incidents on wet/greasy roads where I have felt the car slide and the traction control light come on. Recently feeling the wheels spin on a straight road not going faster than 40.
Do I need to 'winterize' my Scirocco? If so what do I need to get done? Any advice much appreciated - Sarah

You just have to drive to the conditions unless you want to spend loads getting a set of winter tyres. I had a rear wheel drive merc that was a pig on ice / snow. It could go sideways on a straight road when changing gear and would get stuck at junctions with the slightest of incline. Used to drive around in the winter with bricks in the boot to help the traction. The Conti sport contact tyres did not help as no sideways tread.

I find my 2.0 Tsi much easier than the merc in winter and also find it easier to control one the back end starts going which has happened several times.

Only thing I really do to prepare is make sure you are using the right screenwash, anti freeze topped up and give all the door rubbers a coat of gummipledge to prevent the glass freezing to them and being unable to open your doors.

This will be my 3rd winter with a Roc and I've never had an issue with it. I've got a set of AutoSocks in the boot but so far they have remained sealed in the packet!

The car is more affected by strong side winds rather than snow and Ice. I find you can "feel" the road really well through the car so you get warning that you should slow down before you fly off the road
