how is that doing 170mph? mine stops at 155mph at the moment (private road) with my current mods, obviously will do a bit more once remapped, that must have a hell of alot of work done, or he has been on a very long stretch of road

1.4, 170 Mph

chipped or not, no chance of doing that speed. you'd be needing north of 350BHP to even get close.

Then again, VW speedos are notorious for over reading.

And another good way of wrecking your car is to drive it in to a tree

Like he said, it's on a freeway downhill.

I think a chipped 1.4TSI with intake and exhaust mods would easily make 250 km/h. At that point it would be making perhaps 220HP. Why would the car need 130hp more to raise top speed by 20km/h? Is there a reliable way of calculating it?

Thanks

Hassan,

look through all the car mags of standard cars capable of 270KMH (thats 169 MPH in british terms) and then look at the power those cars produce !!!

I am no expert here but recall from my motorbike days that there was this holy grail figure of 200mph that owners of Suzuki Hayabusas and the like tried to achieve ( I am talking timed speeds here not inaccurate speedometer readings) Its all to do with aerodynamic drag that increases exponentially with speed so say you had a bike that had 150BHP and it could do 170 MPH, to get it to do 180MPH you would need to up the power by lets say 20 BHP, to get the bike to go from 180 to 190 you would need to increase the power not by a further 20 bhp but by 40 BHP.

Did the above make any sense, what I am trying to say is that (electronic speed limiters aside) you would need to significantly increase your BHP to go from 250 to 270KMH and to do this on a 1.4 would require vast amounts of money. You could get those power levels from the 2.0TSi without too much bother but from a 1.4 would require serious modification.

Nope. That's the road from the factory down to the docks for export.
Now you know why they don't need running in.
