By this I mean the same profile tyres whether that's 18 or 19'' that are designed for winter.

I'm moving to Manchester in August and have to get to work in potentially adverse conditions (the hospitals) and am planning on colder winters than Nottingham where I was based previously, we had a few snow days there.

I don't want to buy new alloys/steel wheels and do a straight tyre swap instead.

Also I know winter tyres have benefit other than ice/snow.

Anyone rocked these types of tyres?

Hi mate. Here in Poland we need to have winter tyres. I have a set of Continental Winter Contacts, 235/40 x 18 and they are very very good.

As you say, it's not just for snowy/icy conditions. In severe wet weather they are better too and in general cold conditions. However, do not expect them to be super-sticky get out of jail cards, especially on ice. You will slide as easily as a normal tyre if you drive like a baffoon with them ;)
