Morning all,

Would like to get the rear lip of the car sprayed/wrapped in gloss black. I know a lot of people have their's sprayed and it looks brilliant but i'd like the option to take it back to stock when i sell it hence wrapping. Any ideas how much it would cost and could anyone suggest anything in the south east?

If your going to go black, get anything other than gloss as it would be more cost effective long run to just change the car.

I'd personally always get it wrapped so didn't have to tell insurance / DVLA

Explain? Why is gloss black more costly than another black?

Still... Wrapped is the way to go

not that expensive, back in the day i had mine done in cf wrap as well as recess

not that expensive, take a few pics and e-mail for quote

Pretty sure you should be notifying the insurance there.

Everything. Wheels, body kit, wrap, remap is declared on mine.

After posting I realised what I wrote lol (really bad morning haha)

If you wrap the entire car, you do not need to tell the DVLA as it's not permanent, insurance wise... Disclose everything that's visible.
Silly things like spraying my badges black etc I wouldn't tell them, but I've heard people have been burnt in the past for this

I am not convinced this is true now. The perceived colour of the car is changed so it should be refelcted on the V5.

From a practical point of view - if you car is stolen and its wrapped in a completely differnt colour the Police will use the DVLA database info to look out for it... so the thieves in that orange Roc (that is white underneath the vinyl) are going to have a much easier time staying aheead of the law...

Yes - interesting point, I have just found the following extract from a professional car wrap company:

DVLA – there is no current legal requirement to inform the DVLA, as this is only a temporary change. A vinyl wrap can be removed at any time, returning your vehicle back to it’s original condition. Please see updates and further information on our website.

Insurance – you must advise your insurance of any work and the value of work that you have done on your vehicle. It could affect a future claim if you don’t.

Full colour change – the police use databases that show the colour of your car against DVLA registrations. A vinyl wrap colour will not show on this database and so if you do get stopped, you will have to explain the wrap process. This can easily be proved by showing the underside of the vehicle’s bonnet or an unwrapped part of the car.
