Cambelt change

Took the scirocco in for a service and was informed the cambelt was due for a change as its now reached 4 years old I thought seemed strange 2009 model with 28k I was always known a belt should be changed on miles not age of the car just wondered what other peoples opinions was on this thanks.

It's a VW UK recommendation and not one stipulated from the factory as you will see from your service booklet.

It is based on mileage and age, whichever occurs first. Mileage limit is so high these days with longlife belts, it's normally age that dictates the change.

Mileage: 140k miles
Age: pre Sep 2009 - 4 years
after Sep 2009 - 5 years
