Scirocco Central

So, after just under two years of having the R I've decided to trade it in and change for a newer BMW E93 M3.

Will be a shame to see it go, but I've had a scirocco for almost 5 years and fancied something with more noise and a CC for the summer, whilst minimising performance loss (compared to a coupe car).

The R DSG is a great car for every day, sporty driving and just stunning on the track. I have to say its performance on the limit on track is just awesome. The differential is amazing. With warm Goodyear asym. 2 tyres, all stability and traction control off and pushing very hard the car is just stunning. In dry and wet it will out pace so many cars, but then again I always push hard and drive it well!

I recommend everyone goes on track and takes tuition if you like driving. Even if you don't push too hard, but learn car control.

My only two minor issues with the car is the front pillar blocks visibility and VW stock brake setup is crap. I've run tarox grooved discs and strada pads, perfectly balanced for every day and no squeal. Great for hard 20 mins track sessions.

M3 NIIIICE

Are the stock cars ok to take on track then for 20-30 min runs?

I was wary of talks of brake hoses getting hot on stock cars and the rubber expanding..

That and knackering other parts of the car:p

It all depends on your driving as you'd expect. I'm a late braker and always use them right into the corner on the track. I went through the original set of pads in one track day (plus about 9000 miles on clock) and messed up my front disks. The rear pads also suffered as stability control uses the rear brakes - hence why i completely turn off traction and stability control.

The most you'll get out of the stock setup is probably 10-15minutes of hard track use (and you'll come into the pits with the brakes smoking). But if your new to it, learning the track and the car they'll last 20 minutes with a good cool down. When the temperatures heat up, the fade increases. They never failed, but there are times where you get sod all feeling from them - but this might be after 15 minutes at Brands Hatch and on a lap after braking from 120-70, then 90-40, then 80-40.

The Tarox grooved disks and Strada pads are nice balance for every day (infact, my personal preference for brake setup) and say 4 hard track days a year with 6-8x 20 minute sessions, whilst keeping an eye on feel and wear.

If funds permit, the car is remaped or you plan on doing more track days over a few years I'd buy a AP BBK and just be done with it. ~ £2,500 just gets it sorted and is less hassle long term.

Of course, you could just not push as hard as I do, still enjoy your day and have fun with the standard setup. My VW dealer didnt have an issue with me tracking my car, as they are well looked after.
