Hi, This is my first post so please be kind!
i have bought a 2008 Rocco and need to update the Satnav as I am pretty sure it hasn't been done since the car was new. I have spoken to my local VW dealer and I would have to sell my house to pay for one. I have found these guys
http://www.satnav-update.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; online and would like to know if anyone else has used them and if the update worked without bricking my satnav. They are really cheap and normally when things are cheaper they don't work too well so would like some advise really.
Thank you very much.

Yep I found them too. I mailed them to see if the "latest 2014 update" was newer than the version in my Oct 2013 car but no response so **** them. Interested in any replies as I do like up to date maps. My old garmin had lifetime updates with new maps every 3 or 4 months via a 3GB download.

Whilst this doesn't help Hudeanie (as your's is most likely too old for this firmware), it does help Chelspeed:

Chelspeed - My June 13 Rocco came with map 7918 ( which is version 9 ) , i updated it to the latest maps (8048 - version 10) with my own disc and it worked a treat.
Hudeanie1985 - i'm pretty sure that you'll need to update the firmware on a 2008 unit , in order to apply the latest maps

IF your firmware is <3xxx, you need to update the firmware to accept the V10 maps.
There are modified firmware versions that WOULD work with your unit, they are floating about on the internet. There is always a little risk of bricking the unit though

Thanks Metaljay interesting reading. I have hardware H09, firmware 5238 and maps 7918. Can I upgrade maps to 8048 - V10 without upgrading the firmware to 5269? I have downloaded both your torrent links so just need to confirm the above and find a dual layer DVD to write the maps to.

Has anyone found a way to update the RNS315 maps by the way?

Burnt a DVD +R DL disc with 5.545 GB of data from the web using Nero at x2.4. All seemed to go OK and verified OK.
With ignition off I pushed the DVD into the unit and it starts up and whirs away reading the disc. About a minute later it says DVD error and then stops.
Any thoughts? Am I doing anything obviously wrong?

Use DVD-R DL...
Certainly for the RNS-510, it will only accept map disks with the -R discs.
Cheers

The RNS is just picky - on some units, the + R would work fine. Just that the -R seems to be (generally) better.

OK ta wasn't a dig at you. Just that I've read about three threads from numerous people on three different fora and not one said we suggest you try -R discs. Went to Maplins and had about 4 different options for +R discs and one for -R discs so decided they were the ones to try. Ho ha. Off to Maplins again for -R.

Haha! Blame your RNS
. On my trip to maplins I bought 1 box of +Rs, 1 box of -Rs and then i box of CD -Rs.... Just to cover all basis regarding the firmware + maps. Now I have multiple CDs with different maps/firmware versions on them

OK another £20 on 5 off DVD -R DL discs. Burnt one again using Nero and .......... "DVD error" again. B*******ks. Any other suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?
Now spent £40 and could have bought a disc for £29.99 off the original link. If I find out what's wrong then I will still have 3 more discs left for the next upgrades so still just about in pocket.

Try burning the disk at the slowest possible speed. It shouldn't make a difference but it sometimes does.

I have a MY2010, 59 plate and still cannot get into that menu that shows you what unit you have.
Any ideas?!
Even from the boot sticker? Maybe I can get it from that? Again - any ideas?
I miss RW1 for his knowledge

You need to activate the test menu through VCDS mate
